This is the thread to talk about all the comics the Wigged Wonder claims to be a big fan of.
Marvel fans always hate this one.
That's actually one of the hings I hate about Marvel is the gods mixed in with super heroes. It doesn't mix well. Thor is a cool character but I never really liked him or Doctor Strange.
It does make things kind of odd at times. Since gods can't be copyrighted, we sometimes see different versions of the same ones in each universe. Hercules is a good example.
Anybody else reading those watchmen prequels ? So far the comedian first issue has been the best one.
I'm still not sure how I feel about the Watchmen. I like a couple of the characters, but I still don't get the whole premise. Why are they any different from regular old DC Universe heroes?
Prior to these new prequels, Watchmen was only a 12 issue story that was dark, reflected on Reagan-Thatcher era politics, the Cold War, complex social issues and went where no other comics had at that point. Yeah, it was technically in the DC Universe (kind of) but it really was it's own world.
It was essentially a murder mystery that touched on so much and, to many comic fans, it was the best graphic novel ever created. Personally, I definitely put it up on my top 3.
Interesting. I'll have to read that.
Wow Gretsch can't belive you haven't read Watchmen.
I've always read more of the mainstream DC and Marvel universe stuff (with the exception of maybe Spawn). I'm new to titles like Watchmen.
Youre in for a treat then Watchmen is also in my top 3 along with Dark Knight Returns and Leauge of Extrodinary Gentelemen. I guess I like the more off the radar stuff. Just got done reading a series called Irredeemable. It's about a superman style character that goes nuts and kills just about the whole Earth and most of the other heroes. I thought it was good.
Yeah yeah yeah lets see how Supes deals with Galactus and his power cosmic
haha True enough.
Ever read the Silver Surfer/Superman crossover? It's an alternate timeline where Galactus was responsible for the original destruction of Krypton. It was pretty bad.
Kind of like the Citizen Kane of modern comics, it changed the game. Many great comic writers of today point to it's influence.
So will I, thanks for the insight, CP. How does the movie stack up against it?
I can't imagine it stacks up very well.
Have you seen it? Actually the movie is pretty faithful to the source material.
I did see it. I thought a few scenes were pretty good, but as a whole, I didn't really care for it.
I didn't pick up the Night Owl one that came out today yet but I read the rest. I agree, the Comedian one is the best. I was not that impressed with the others but it's only the first issue so I am gonna stick with 'em.
one of my English teachers let me do a book report on it after I let her read my issues. it really is that good.
