We're all fans...or former fans...so what is the first Stern show you remember listening to? I remember listening to Gilbert sitting in for the news once during the 90's and thinking "fuck, this bitch is annoying but I can't stop laughing"<br>

Guess Who's The Jew from right at the end of the WNBC days. Turned on to Howard by a guy I worked with in a liquor store. We used to sneak a couple of the little airplane bottles and laugh like hell--and turn down the volume when the customers came in.

Howard was joking about OJ making a sail out of Denise Simpson's skin and sailing away to escape the police. My jaw dropped and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Can you even fathom something like that today? So different.

This is actually a very vivid and important memory to me.

I was in New York City for the first time ever in 1996. I knew who Howard was from his television appearances and press, but had never heard his show before (his show was not syndicated at that time in my bumfuck part of the country). It was during the shooting of Private Parts because Howard was describing an embarrassing moment from the previous days of filming.

Things had been going really well on set and he was feeling relaxed and happy. He was changing clothes backstage and noticed his penis looked better flacid than he'd ever seen it before. He said it was longer and thicker and he was kinda proud of it, because normally it was all small and shriveled up and looked like a button.

He assumed his mellower mood and smooth days of shooting had relaxed his body and as a result his penis looked good, so the next time he had to change clothes, he did so in front of a bunch of people, hoping they would notice his new, more attractive penis. As expected, as soon as he dropped his shorts, his penis had reverted to it's natural "button" appearance.

    Everyone in the studio laughed.

It was funny, because I had a similar experience. So it was almost a bonding experience. I'll never forget it.

    Unlike every recent episode...

I discovered him early on in the WNBC days, before Howard really made a name for himself in the New York market. This was even before Jackie joined the show. I was channel surfing and head him making fun of Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick. Of course he beat that stupid Kennedy impersonation into the ground through the decades, but back then nobody on radio had the balls to mock the Kennedy's like that. I thought it was edgy and pretty funny back then, but I have a feeling if I were to hear those tapes today they'd come off as lame and painfully unfunny.

I couldn't get Stern in my town in Upstate NY. First time I heard of him was on Letterman in '86, then the channel 9 show. Sometimes I could pick up the first hour from the station in Buffalo. But in 98 the show was being posted to usenet by #OHR and I started listening full time... that was until 2010 when Artie left and I couldn't stand it anymore.

Before Stern I listened to the Steve & Garry rebroadcast out of Chicago from 90-93 (could pick it up at night), so I was well aware how much Stern ripped off from them.

The earliest stern show I can recall hearing might be " Lesbian dial a date" when he was on in the afternoons on WNBC. If you heard something like that on the radio today it wouldn't be a big deal but back then it was unheard of. I was like "holy cow, I can't believe he's doing this on the radio. Awesome! " LOL.

I didn't hear a Stern show on the radio until the 90's because Atlanta never had Stern's radio show. However, Atlanta did have his tv show on Atlanta's channel 69.

And that's where I first heard him. I was probably around 9 or 10 and was at a friend's house and he put on this show on a Friday night where some chicks were jumping on little trampolines to see who had the "cancer bags."

We cracked up like little boys do when boobies are the subject.
