Howard's psychiatrist assigned him to watch the Zachary Quinto's version on Broadway.

(You folk's familiar with this play?)

    Will he watch it?

And which character(s) does his psychiatrist want him to learn from?

I'm familiar with it, having read it in High School and then watching a movie (starring Karen Allen, maybe)? Aren't there only 3 characters? The nutcase, her mother, and the "gentleman caller"?

To answer your question, Howard will probably relate the best to the mother, who is an old biddy that has to care for a child-like adult obsessed with animals.

Yes, Beth is the child trapped in the body of an adult. Unfortunately for Howard, her menagerie is not made of glass.

I get such a giggle out of knowing that Wig's therapist is still shoveling that antiquated Freudian shit after 20 years of no results, yet has convinced Wig that his mother over-identified with him, which makes him angry because he wants to fuck her and kill Ben while listening to Bruno Mars... or some other twisted 19th century nonsense. What a crock of shit.

Clearly, Howard is Tom, desperate to run away from the trappings of family life and ultimately, abandoning his family to pursue his own interests.

Howard saw it and talked about it today...

He related to the daughter who was stifled by her overbearing mother.

    hm... interesting

and completely missed the point his shrink was talking to him about. Howard is the son in the Glass Menagerie. He's the son who fled, ran away from any and all familial obligations just to be free.

It's not surprising a self-absorbed narcissist would miss this and choose instead to focus on ripping apart a different character.

That's just the mega doses of melatonin required to keep them from clawing her.

In a way he's like Amanda as well, where he seems to have the need to control what others do but is oblivious (and on purpose at times) to their problems.
