The Golden Age of Air Travel: Beautiful Vintage Airline Posters from between the 1940s and 1970s

These airline posters hark back to a bygone era when flying was an experience only for the well-off. Passengers donned their best for the journey and leg-room and reclining were not even topics of conversation yet. We revisit a time when the skies were ruled by Pan Am and British Overseas Airways Corp (BOAC) courtesy of a new coffee table book, Airline Visual Identity 1945-1975.

Unfortunately, i was way to young at the time to fully appreciate the hot pants, mini-skirts and go-go boots worn by the PSA stewardesses..

And let's not forget Southwest's stewardess uniforms...

My mother was a stewardess for national airlines back in the 60s when you had to be pretty with a nice body. Not like today where they mostly seem to be burnt out booze hounds in their 40s and 50s. I will try to dig out some pics and post.

    Those are amazing.
Literally every man in my immediate family was a pilot. Grandfather on my Moms side started flying biplanes off a field in Florida and spent his entire working life with Pan Am. International baller. Ended up getting a metal of recognition from the army for civilian flights he made to Africa n the 40's. Didn't even known he was flying supplies. No bullshit dude....diver, brawler, drinker. And saw a UFO.
Uncle caught the tail of the rock star thing in the late 70's/early 80's with Eastern until the strike. He sided with the good guys and ended up flying lear jets for some smaller companies after passing on a lot of shady South American offers.
Old man flew row Republic last I heard. Been awhile.

    Thanks for posting!
