What was that moment for you that in hindsight the show was never the same again...?

The show was still (on and off) listenable to me up until the Gary Pitch.. after that as I look back the show was never the same..

tiptoeing around Artis downward spiral, more Beth , More ETM and less wack packers ...

Howard's non-stop blithering about how great the movie was -- that was the first time I didn't want to listen to the show.

The announcement of separation/divorce from Alison was like a punch in the gut.

And the final loss of Jackie was a kick in the nuts.

But far, far worse was yet to come. :(

When Jackie left the whole dynamic changed for the worse and the show never recovered. Once Artie was gone the final nail in the coffin was hammered.

Howard started hooking up with the "beautiful Beth O" :puke: ugh and that's how she is referred to to this day. Give me a break. Everytime someone refers to her as beautiful Beth O or compliments her on being so wonderful I want to vomit. It really is embarassing. It started when Beth was in FHM and you had to compliment Beth or she would pout like a child. Sal was the only one who wouldn't kiss Beth's ass and that's why she hates him, that horseface joke at Gary's roast was awesome. That took alot of balls and of course like clockwork
Beth whined to Howard that everyone wasn't kissing her ass and so Sal was neutered.

Then of course there's the "Beth never shits, smells bad" other horseshit (no pun intended) and pussy whipped Howard was born. It's been difficult to watch as a fan. How the mighty have fallen.

This is kinda a misleading question. I think the show peaked in the late 90s, but the show really took a resounding sharp drop to suckitude in the last two years.

For me, the show peaked when Billy left. The show was still solid for a decade or so after that. But that was when the show was at it's best. Jackie Puppet and Marge Shott were two regulars who always had you rolling in the isles. Billy could put in a solid 30 minutes or longer with those impressions and it would never get tired. Howard had two real comedians in the studio (Jackie and Billy) feeding him lines and jumping into the action.

I did feel that show started to get unbearable his last year or two at KROQ where all Howard did was complain about everything and not in a funny way. But I thought the show regained its footing the first few years of Sirius.

I think two events started the downfall of the show into suckitude. First, it was Artie getting hooked on the H again. Artie was the best part of the show until he started to spiral down. After that, he was annoying not knowing when to shut up. Second, it was the first Jimmy Kimmel party. I think that was when Howard totally bought into the whole Hollywood lifestyle with his endless name dropping of celebrities he hung out with, talking about $5k toilet seats, and just losing touch with his audience and their lifestyles. He became that bore at the parties who brags about all the expensive toys he has, his expensive lifestyle, how great his wife is, and constantly talking about the celebrities he/she met making people want to make a B-line to the front door.

This thread begs me to ask the question that Poindexter asked in Revenge of the Nerds:

Would you rather live in the ascendency of a civilization or during its decline?

When Jackie left. Although, Artie did breath enough life back into it to bring it back up to a respectfully high level. Once he left, utter garbage.
