I consider this post Stern related because he helped launch their career and they did a bunch of prank calls specifically for the show....

Johnny Brennan, the main guy behind the Jerky Boys, hosts a new JB podcast that is really good. He gives alot of info about how the calls were set up, plays them, takes calls from fans, does the voices (Sal, Rizzo, etc.). If you're an old-school Stern fan and remember the stuff they did for the show, he even plays some of that. Anyway, check it out--it's on i-Tunes

How did Howard help start their careers? I live in Chicago so I never heard Howard in the late 80's/early 90's? Did he have them on his show or used to play their tapes?

Kamal has been on Nick and Artie twice. Hilarious shit.

    Brennan's podcast is great.

Just started listening to the Podcast (thanks for bringing it to my attention).

Not exactly how I pictured Johnny B's actual voice to sound. Even in the Jerky Boys' movie, he sounded a little like Frank Rizzo.

Before they had a record contract there was a cassette tape (unauthorized by them) of their calls that was being passed around in the NYC area--Stern started playing it on the air which brought them notoriety. They actually had to prove that THEY were the people on the tape in order to get signed to a label.

I think both Johnny and Kamal have always given Howard credit for "breaking" them into popular culture. Their shit really was funny. Johnny is saying that he's going to release a new Jerky Boys album in fall 2012 (Kamal and he no longer talk so I assume he won't participate).

This is a show I would actually listen to on 101. A real "good fit for the channels."

Cool! I always though Kamal's characters were weak and Jonny's were much better anyways. In high school a friend of mine had a tape called The Musacha Tapes, or something like that which he said was related to the Jerky Boys stuff. I still have my cd of the Tube Bar stuff and whenever I need a laugh I pop that in and listen.

There is some serious ballbusting when Kamal is on the show.

Was it the Jerky Boys who did the prank call to the car dealership?
"I can sell cars so fast it'll make you silly"
    Zat them?

Jerky Boys were the absolute best!!!! Sal and Richard's blatant ripoffs of them can't even come close to how hilarious these guys' calls were even without the benefit of today's technology.

My ex bro-in-law had at least 3 different full cassettes from them. He was a deadhead sorta, and the original JB tapes got traded at the Dead show's. Really nasty phone calls, the calls on the CD's are mild in comparison. Wish I still had copies of them, some of thse calls would have never made it by the censors.

The best calls from The Musacha Tapes were on the original cassette bootleg that got passed around, but Johnny cut the dude out of the ground soon after the group started catching attention, turned the focus from whatever's funny to character-driven calls. I think that's why Kamaal's shit looks inferior to Johnny's. But I always thought "Terrorist Pizza" was the best.

Never topped that original cassette though:

anyone remember when Captain Janks was pranking the Jerky Boys and they got all butthurt and cried to K-ROCK management (as if they control him) to please make him stop? that was pretty lame
