NRA defends stance on law that allows terror suspects to get firearms

NRA honcho Wayne Lapierre has run for cover again and been silent after the News revealed his group thwarted a bill that would stop terror suspects from getting guns in America.
The NRA says it’s just trying to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens to buy guns — even if their names appear on a terror watch list.

The National Rifle Association fired back Wednesday at critics of its opposition to a proposed law banning terror suspects from buying guns in the United States.

“The National Rifle Association wants to prevent terrorists from obtaining any deadly weapon and to suggest otherwise is offensive and wrong,” NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told the Daily News. “It is not surprising that anti-gun politicians and publications are distorting the facts to push a gun control agenda.”

There was no direct word from the group’s executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre.

The News reported the federal Denying Firearms and Explosives to Dangerous Terrorists Act has been stalled for eight years — with proponents blaming the NRA and GOP lawmakers for its failure to pass. A legal loophole allowed more than 2,000 suspects on the FBI’s Terror Watchlist to legally purchase weapons from 2004 and 2014.

Bill sponsor Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) remained pessimistic the bill would pass this year, despite last week’s carnage in Paris.

In the Senate, a group of Democrats have the so-called “terror gap” in their sights, with plans to reform the visa waiver program, according to Politico.

But activist filmmaker Michael Moore tweeted a call to arms for the bill.

“It’s time for real Americans to stop the NRA,” he posted, adding a photo of Wednesday’s Daily News front page.

Baker said the NRA believes the bill would “deny law-abiding citizens their constitutional right to due process.”

This is quite the low blow from leftist media. I can't say I'm suprised. Funny how easily a bleeding heart's compassion for foreign people's so quickly transitions to intense disdain and mischaracterization of their opponent.

Edit: Oh and Michael Moore is a complete savage. It's about time we run that fat fuck out of town.

Look --- If someone wants to get a gun, they can and will. NRA or no NRA. Slapping on more laws and restrictions will do nothing.

The 2nd amendment is what it is. We're not changing any parts of the constitution because people are reacting so pussy to the French terror attack.

The NRA works for the gun and ammo companies. Not the morons who send them money every month so they can put a window sticker in their truck.

The media is extremely bias in many areas, just not on gun control. Every image of refugees is mainly a man or woman holding a child. They make it see like the Syrians are coming to America to go to Disneyland.

It's cute that you think you're above the media's attempts to convince you of anything. The media's continued coverage of ISIS has you people convinced that you're more likely to die at the hands of ISIS than some asshole with a legally-purchased gun. Yeah, you're so much smarter than the media you rail against that you only believe them when it's ISIS or say, some threat from Iraq.

You're media sheep, but you think you're not.

There should still be something called "due process". If someone is a terror suspect, and not a citizen, they should be deported. If they are a citizen and actively supporting terrorism, then get busy and put them in prison. Don't just put them on a list for extra pat downs at the airport.

Then get busy amending the constitution to definitively put an end to the concept that just because your parents drug ass to get here and drop you you're automatically a citizen. Children of citizens are citizens. Naturalized citizens are citizens. Taking your first shit here shouldn't make you a citizen.

But if they start denying gun ownership based on people having political ideas out of line with the government's, that could be a problem down the line for everyone.

And perhaps you're not thinking things through, even though you think you are.

How much of a threat to the average Pole, Jew, Soviet, or freedom loving German was Hitler in 1925? Just a bunch of angry little men attending meetings!

It's not what they're doing NOW, it's what they can do should they populate the world in significant numbers.

A whole lot of spinning going on these days from the media. When your world view is shown to be a complete failure you have to try to spin it a way to make yourself feel better about your opinions.

That depends. It would be hard to get a gun if they were made illegal.

Many on the left say "gun control" and they really mean is "nation-wide gun confiscation". There would be many fewer gun deaths, but it would be trampling on the liberties of people, and some who would of benefited from a gun as persona safety, will fall between the cracks.
