At the time of Christ's birth the land of Judea was under Roman rule. Many Jews hoped and prayed for a Warrior Messiah who would lead them in armed revolt against the Romans. There was talk of a Messiah arriving with a flaming sword and a golden chariot. Instead... there rose a son of a carpenter. He spoke of not War and Revolt, but of Peace and Love. Despite the efforts of the Pharisees to corner Him, He had very little to say about the Romans, and instead urged his followers to focus on the big picture, His Father's Kingdom in heaven. Only as His followers grew in number did He eventually became a source of concern for the Roman occupiers. A Messiah who required no sword, no chariot...born in barn. Instead of a Warrior, Judea got a peaceful teacher who got mad one time and knocked over a few tables.
