You don't like cops, do em a favor and never ask for their help in your time of crisis. That means when old man grandpa backs into your car in the parking lot too.

Like it or not, it's there to avoid million dollar lawsuits every time a cop fails to protect, or in this case, pusses out.

Born and raised in Brooklyn I can assure you that the nypd of the 70's and 80's were fucking studs. And if you we're a good guy you had zero to fear! But now there are tons of Reggie and Spick cops and there's your trouble and change for the worse!
Don't worry I won't because they'll probably arrest me for defending myself. All cops are good for is handing out speeding tickets.

So your logic is, because someone provides a public service we should overlook any ineptitude or criminal behavior on their part?
Yes, cops and firemen put their lives on the line and the good ones should be rewarded - however the bad ones should face DOUBLE the criminal penalties that civilians do as they are given much more trust and authority than regular citizens
there are a ton of asshole, no good cops out there - enough to taint the pool. Thats why cops dont get a lot of respect.
Seems the guy was in a shitty situation, but hardly indicative of the NYPD giving up on society. You fail.

I bet he's torn , how to teach those little boys of his about police and protection, and good guys and bad guys.
