Anyone see the American Masters show on Carole King last night? It was very good and informative. I knew she wrote a million hits, just didn't know she wrote 10 zillion. She wrote the melody and Gerry Goffin the words when they were married. The list is mind boggling. Here is a small sampling.

    Will You Love Me Tomorrow
Take Good Care of My Baby
    Chains
    The Loco-Motion
    Up on the Roof
    One Fine Day
    I'm into Something Good
    Don't Bring Me Down
    Pleasant Valley Sunday
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman
    Beautiflul
    I Feel the Earth Move
    It's Too Late
    So Far Away
    Some Kind of Wonderful
    You've Got a Friend

Such variety. I could go on for another 10 pages. Bravo!

I remember reading somewhere once that Lennon and McCartney wanted to be King and Goffin when they first started writing songs. That surprised me.

The thing that gets me is Goffin wrote the lyrics for "Natural Woman". Astonishing a man wrote that.

It seemed to be the backdrop for a lotta gals to put on one of her albums before the first make out session or sex with me during the 70's and 80's. In fact I clearly remember saying to myself one time "oh I'm getting laid tonight" when the album came on.
The good old days , no condoms, full bush, maybe some leg hair, ( on the girl that is) Frye boots, corduroy jeans, orgy moustache.

I saw it too. Very good.

On a side note, has anyone else noticed that Carole King and Art Garfunkel have the same nose?

I loved it! What a beautiful person and phenomenal talent (just like all us Brooklyn-born gals LOL :)). I can listen to "Jazzman" alone for hours on end. Imagine an album like "Tapestry" today?

Those were such hopeful times, with her kind of raw, "un-celebritized" talent the rule, not the exception. I'm tempted to see the Broadway show, but I think I'd be let down not hearing her unique, soulful voice.

Heard the GFR version of the Loco-Motion the other night on my commute home & Googled it out of curiosity. I was surprised to see she'd written it.

"I Feel the Earth Move" is my favorite song of hers. What a great song, so wonderfully sung by CK.

She said when approached with the idea she wanted no part of it. Was afraid it would get the gloss over treatment. But she has come to like it. They showed a clip. The girl playing her was almost a dead ringer (of course more attractive tho). And a great voice too.

Oh yeah it was definitely a "chick album". But not only that, it was THE album of that year. I know I helped wear out my sister's copy.
