Yeah I grew up on this show. I stopped following Transformers in the early 90's. I know its been going strong in various incarnations since then but its not the same. The Michael Bay movies arent for fans of 80s Transformers, they are for the younger crowd.

They did a follow up movie to the cartoon where Optimus was killed by Megatron

The follow up to the 80s Transformers was Generation 2 and then Beast Wars. It was early CGI stuff.

G.I Joe was another cartoon from that era that was horribly terrific. I'd get home from school, make a big ole bowl of Fruit Loops and watch the shit out of those cartoons.

I always loved how they blew up the planes but showed the parachute to show they survived.

It was an FCC rule, but still...

Loved Transformers when I was a kid. Tried to revisit some early episodes recently and couldn't hack it. It was a terrible show!

Guess that's not surprising. All it ever was was a weekly half-hour toy commercial. And it worked like gangbusters.

I occasionally go to Seibertron or TFW2005 and reminisce about how much cooler toys were in the '80s.

I remember when I was around 9 year-old some kids would being their Transformer toys into school. I had Megatron which would transform into a gun. I remember the teacher politely saying, "you aren't supposed to bring toy guns into school." I told her I would transform it back into the robot and she was fine with it.

Now if that were to happen today the school would go in lockdown, a Swat Team would be deployed, and I would definitely be expelled and my parents sued for the trauma I caused the other kids. The parents would also likely sue Hasbro. Stuff like that makes me glad I was a kid in the 1980s.
