First of all we know that most of the radio persona is an act to begin with. I think you have to go back to when Howard initially started to change. Can we trace it back to 9/11. Jackie leaving. The divorce. Beth. The outside forces of PC. Howard's religous experience, Therapy, His daughters. They were all factors. Some say it's money. Howard has been wealthy for many years. Even going back to the K-Rock days. Once Howard was in NYC, LA and Philly his salary could have been anywhere from $5-10 million a year. He was probably making $25 million before his second to last terrestrial radio contract. When he first came over to Sirius he was still having Daniel Carver on, God hates fags and playing Reggie Hating Hat. Janks was still making phony phone calls. He was still trashing Rosie, Ellen, Kathy Lee. Was still ripping Morning Zoos and wishing cancer and AIDS on his competitors. The change probably started the second year of his Sirius contract. He had still been with Beth but hadn't gotten married yet. The biggest change came with the demise of Artie. That probably put the final nail in the coffin, no pun intended. Howard realized what he said and how he acted impacted people's lives. There are really only two more pillars to fall. His reconcilliation with Leno and going on the Oprah TV Network. Now Howard attacks the conservatives and right wingers. These are the same people who ripped Howard for his vicious behavior. Howard has always been a liberal. The crossover to Hollywood Howie was speaking out for the Gay community. Howard is now welcome at the Academy Awards. He would be applauded as a presenter. How many of those guests at Jimmy's would have shown up for early to mid nineties Stern. The one that unleashed Stuttering John. The thing is you can't evolve in Mr Nice Guy. That's not what people tune in for. Mr Nice Guy is boring. In order to be true to your fans you have to maintain the nastiness and go after the phonies even at the expense of not going to parties in the Hamptons with Beth. Didn't Beth know what she signed up for. The Howard act on the radio had to stay the same. The whole point of Howard going to AGT was he suppose to be outrageous. Howard turning into everyone love me is as ridiculous as Randy Jackson turing into the nasty judge on American Idol. No one would buy it.
