I agree with OP, except the Simpsons. It's still watchable, and can still be better than most network tv. How about we add network tv to your list?

    Another good one.
I gave up on that rag when they put Brittney Spears on the cover like she was serious music

:jj: I had it narrowed down to a Britney or a Backstreet Boys cover.

I can't disagree with any of those, except maybe with Depeche Mode, who were never good. They always sounds like a mopey, pretentious version of Joy Division/New Order to me.

Francis Ford Coppola and the Beach Boys. Although the latter can arguably be entirely blamed on Mike Love selling them as a nostalgia act. Sad that a genuinely innovative musical collective spent a part of its lifetime performing oldies at state fairs with that guy from Full House.

Depeche Mode was pretty upbeat before they made it big. After Violator it was all down hill. Good call on the Beach Boys. I never liked them ever but they go way worse when that cocomo song came out.

I actually remember the issue. It was in May of 2000, I think. Just a pathetic, fawning piece of nonsense that read like a publicists' wet dream. There comes a point when you stop reporting on what's popular and try to "fit in" by pretending it's anything more than a way to trick teenagers out of their parents' money.

And while I play Katy Perry when I drive around my niece, I'm not going to pretend it's Billie Holiday. Plus I got to turn her on to the Zombies, so I was pleased with that. She'll outgrow Mrs. Brand like she will her Barbie's.

Anyone remember that guy from some boy band (I think they were from Boston) explaining how a member of NSYNC did "favors" for the guy who owned the brand to get more money?

See, that's a story Rolling Stone should have been covering.

"Watchable" and "compared to" are such fucking copouts. What a friggin' ringing endoresement. You're better than shit and the visual equivalent of paint drying.

How about you compare The Simpsons to, oh, I don't know, The Simpsons?

By that criteria it's an unwatchable pile of shit. Because it's an unwatchable pile of shit, and has been since Season 9 or 10 or whenever that Mike Skully fuckhead took over from the brilliant Bill Oakley & Josh Weinstein as show-runners. The fact that they have had Al Jean running it on autopilot for the last 12 years or so proves they've got zero intentions in ever raising the bar or taking chances ever again.

Before the Stern Show ripped my teenage heart out, The Simpsons took a steaming dump on my childhood. "End rant."
