what do i need to know, good, bad idea, what?
Fun little car, easy to work on. Kind of anemic power wise.
Long as you can find parts, they'll go forever.....I've heard mixed reviews about the newer models.
i don't get the fascination with vw bugs
get the kid an old truck
I've no firsthand experience but when I get a few extra $$$$ I kinda want one for myself. Or maybe a dune buggy. Good luck!
nice idea, kid gets to learn stick like we all did when we grew up
My parents had one in the 70's. That's al I can add.
A van would be better
check the floorpan. the strength of the frame of a beetle is totally dependent upon the floorpan. if its rusted and rotted away, the car is not safe to drive. most VW's that have not had it replaced are rotted away and have holes in it under the areas you can't see. the floorpan can be replaced but its a major welding job.
i remember those holes in the floor pan, was like you were driving the flintstone mobile
ya, she wants one bad & i wouldnt mind something to wrench on. i like the slow speeds for her dumb flakey 16yr old ass.
ya, i heard the early 2000's models really sucked but supposedly fixed with the newer, she wants the 70's era tho.
its def. a chick thing
next thing: beetles are air-cooled. if the cylinders have lost compression its not a big deal since you can replace them by bolting on new ones. when you need to take the car through emissions testing make sure the engine is hot: when it's hot it won't smoke. if you're testing the engine for compression, make sure it's been running for an hour or so: most oil thickeners cannot survive for a whole hour.
i was thinking about letting her drive my old 89 f150 but she would run that bitch into everything in the parking lot.
ya, thats a def. plus.
yeah except in a bug the holes mean the car twists when you try to turn. the bigger the holes the less control you have when you're moving at highway speeds.
thanks, the idea is kinda growing on me.
great suggestion, thanks, ya, i remember holes in my buddies floors from way back, slush on our feet in the winter, good times.
