I just heard a DC lottery radio commercial. It starts out with a guy going "Credit Card - $12,000. Car Loan, $20,000." He goes through a list of about 10 things he owes money on and starts crying at the end. The answer to his troubles? Play the DC lottery. Is this fair advertising? It's obviously aimed at really, really stupid people but it still sucks that they are suggesting that the answer to your financial problems is the Lottery.

I tried to find a copy of it to post but you get the idea. Is this OK?

They shouldn't be telling people that the lottery is the answer to their debt. It's bad enough that companies make claims about their products that aren't true but this stuff is sponsored by the government.

The NC lottery helps pay for education/teachers. Poor people are helping their children educate themselves out of poverty.

Of course it's not OK. The odds of winning the lottery are way too low.

The answer to getting out of financial difficulties is to bet on the ponies.

I agree, especially since sending all their money to me is the true answer to their debts: for the right monthly commitment I will tell them that the real answer is: 42.
