NBC could have saved some cash if they had listened to this guy before hiring the wigged corpse ratings killer.

Hey NBC, Read This Before You Pay Howard Stern $15 Million

Before NBC commits an ungodly amount of money to make Howard Stern a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” it might want to have a look at some research to what consumers think of him. Spoiler alert: Most of them aren’t fans.
The network is reportedly in talks to hire the frequently outrageous radio host at a salary of $15 million a year to replace Piers Morgan, who’s quitting the show. The deal might include a promise to move production from Los Angeles to New York, which would cost another $10 million.

What would NBC be getting for its $25 million? A star who elicits lukewarm feelings or ill will from an overwhelming majority of people, according to data from Marketing Evaluations Inc. The company polls consumers about their feelings towards public figures to generate its widely cited Q Scores. Anytime it’s asked them about Stern, the response has been more or less the same, says president Steven Levitt: “What he brings to the party is a whole lot of negative.”
The last time Marketing Evaluations included Stern in its survey was in 2009. (It hasn’t included him more recently since the data on him has been so stable and since no one has been asking for fresh numbers.) At that time, 72% of respondents were familiar with Stern. By grading him on a four-point scale, they produced a “positive Q” of 9 and a “negative Q” of 64. “That’s seven times more turn-off than turn-on,” says Levitt.
“You could say he’s one of those people you love to hate,” he adds. “He’d fall into the same category as Kim Kardashian or Snooki Polizzi.”

I'm pretty sure that both Kim Kardashian would both draw in at least equal numbers to Stern if they were to judge on agt

It appeared as if the NBC exec Telegdy(sp?) that Stern credits for hiring him was an old-time harcore fan of Sterns. Common sense appeared to be absent from the decision to overpay and hire Stern. I'm amazed the guy hasn't taken a fall for this decision.

I gotta say that even though we mock it, Buckwald's strategy of planting fake negotiations with American Idol in the media worked out well for Howard. That is what Buckwald does. Plants a fake story about his client being heavily pursued for one job to drum up interest in another. NBC fell for it hook, line, and sinker.

Problem with that theory is Cowell owns all the show's Stern was rumored to be going to. Why would cowell or his network reps fall for it?

Cowell doesn't own American Idol. Simon Fuller owns Idol. Cowell was just a paid employee and might have gotten an executive producer credit when he was on it (but I don't even think he got that). Cowell had already left for X-Factor (which he does own) before the Stern to Idol rumors started.

Nigel Lythgoe who ran American Idol at the time claims he barely knows who Howard Stern is and doubted he would be a good talent judge.

apparently a lot of these "old time hardcore fans of the show" are making Howard a lot of money. If only they were listening closer these days they would know it's a bad idea getting involved with him

Howie was supposed to play the Simon Cowell Role of the villain, and per usual Howard didn't work well with others so he decided to do his own thing.
