A blogger from Gawker hunted this guy down and identified him publicly for posting stuff online they didn't agree with.

We post a lot of stuff here at Dawgs.. what do you think about this? Victim or he deserved it?

Unmasking Reddit’s Violentacrez, The Biggest Troll on the Web

GAWKER -- Last Wednesday afternoon I called Michael Brutsch. He was at the office of the Texas financial services company where he works as a programmer and he was having a bad day. I had just told him, on Gchat, that I had uncovered his identity as the notorious internet troll Violentacrez (pronounced Violent-Acres).

"It's amazing how much you can sweat in a 60 degree office," he said with a nervous laugh.

Judging from his internet footprint, Brutsch, 49, has a lot to sweat over. If you are capable of being offended, Brutsch has almost certainly done something that would offend you, then did his best to rub your face in it. His speciality is distributing images of scantily-clad underage girls, but as Violentacrez he also issued an unending fountain of racism, porn, gore, misogyny, incest, and exotic abominations yet unnamed, all on the sprawling online community Reddit. At the time I called Brutsch, his latest project was moderating a new section of Reddit where users posted covert photos they had taken of women in public, usually close-ups of their asses or breasts, for a voyeuristic sexual thrill. It was called "Creepshots." Now Brutsch was the one feeling exposed and it didn't suit him very well.

In the mean time, Reddit has blocked Gawker and a small battle is brewing over privacy rights:

GUARDIAN -- A row over a Gawker journalist's investigation into extreme adult content on Reddit has highlighted issues of free speech versus privacy and the publication of offensive material on the content sharing and recommendations website.

One Reddit politics forum has banned links to Gawker after what the moderator described as "an attack on the site and its users".

Have you been to The Bar? There is much worse.

Anyway, the question is does somebody have the right to post whatever they want, and does someone else have a right to out them because they disagree.

If you want to stay anonymous that's your responsibility. You can't troll people and not expect to get it back worse if you fuck up... it's just the way it is.

i really can't make a judgment call but doesn't it really depend on where he posted his material? with the exception of the gore and underage pics isn't free speech protected (unless he posted the porn on public or political sites).

if it's a public forum he has to abide by the rules of the particular forum....

Yes, he posted photos "scantily clad" underage girls... but so does JC Penny and Sears.

Yes, he posted "racist" material... but so do most of us.

Yes he posted voyeuristic photos of unsuspecting women... but so do a hundred sites, including Flickr and Webshots (I know, I checked for... research purposes.)

Does this mean this guy should be cyberstalked and outed to his job, family, community, the world?

We need Benbas' opinion. That will settle it.

doesn't matter what he did, gawker's behavior was wrong. its not the first time they've technically violated the law. didn't they also purchase the prototype iphone a couple of years ago. apparently trafficking in known stolen merchandise is ok also when its done in the pursuit of a story?

I agree. There used be a freedom of speech thing which no longer exists in this PC world.

This is an example of how everything we've been posting for the last decade could be scrutinized in the future. This is why I avoid Facebook and other data mining sites.
