    This happened once before
When I came to your door
    No reply
    They said it wasn't you
But I saw you peep through your window

I saw the lie, I saw the lie
I know that you saw me
As I looked up to your face

    I tried to telephone
They said you were not home
    That's a lie
Cos I know where you've been
I saw you walk in your door

I nearly died, I nearly died
Cos you walked hand in hand
With another man in my place

    If I were you'd realise that I
Love you more than any other guy
And I'll forgive the lies that I
Heard before when you gave me no reply

    I've tried to telephone
They said you were not home
    That's a lie
Cos I know where you've been
I saw you walk in your door

I nearly died, I nearly died
Cos you walked hand in hand
With another man in my place

"Beatles For Sale" is where Lennon first started to reveal his "dark side", his "demons" if you will, in his writing. :grad:
This and "Rubber Soul" were pivotal albums for the band, and him as a person/artist.

Also this picture you posted reflects an era of Lennon that is very close to the image of him I have tattooed on my side, and I picked that era for a reason.

Imagine being a bastard child in the 40's and 50's... who was then given up by your mother, only to have her remarry and raise children from that marriage in the same town as you. Then you rekindle a relationship with her, only to have her die young shortly after. Hit by a bus.

If it were up to McCartney they would have kept touring on the tails of 1964 Beatlemania when the rest of the band members (well, John and George) detested it and wanted to get back in the studio and write and record and get creative.
Paul, while ridiculously talented and a prodigy when it comes to musicianship, is pop, and has always focused on pop and a "sellable" sound. It wasn't until very late in the Beatles' existence that he started to let some of his feelings come out through his art. But then they broke up and he formed Wings and it was back to intolerable bubbly pop shit.
Paul McCartney was instrumental (no pun intended) and irreplaceable as a Beatle. He helped make them what they are and his talent and resulting contribution to the world can't be denied. And I love him for that. But as an individual, and a solo artist, he's different from the rest of them. Had he not teamed up with them he'd be something very different (as would they). The Beatles need to be viewed as a group, not as individuals, because that's when they were at their best.

Totally soul-bearing, flaw-exposing, emotional, internal, anti-pop, and the work of Lennon...
