so i'm taking a leisurely drive on Derry Road, a 6-lane arterial that is lightly traveled thanks to Highway 401, which lies about a half-mile south. the speed limit is 70km/h (43 mph), and since i'm in no hurry, i'm cruising along at 75. i am just past an intersection when this dummy who was in the far left lane decided that he had to stop at the gas station on the right. he then proceeded to cut over to the driveway. as soon as i saw him in the center lane and realized he was gonna keep coming over, i hit the brakes hard and laid on the horn. he couldn't have been anymore than a foot in front of me, my passenger braced herself for the hit, and knocked out the power to my Sirius in the process. we didnt collide, but i felt that we needed to discuss this, so i followed him into the gas station. by this point, the idiot actually realized that someone was literally ON HIS ASS, so he stopped his car, and I pulled up to have a few words with him. It went something like this: Me: WHAT THE FUCK'S THE MATTER WITH YOU? Him: I-I'm sorry. Me: WHAT THE FUCK WERE YOU THINKING? ARE YOU TRYING TO GET KILLED? Him: *looks at me with a derp face* Me: KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD, ASSHOLE. Him: I-I said I was sorry. Me: Fuck off. Then I drove off, and we laughed about it 10 minutes later. I know that most people would disagree with me, but I would actually support a program that requires all drivers 16 and older to take a mandatory road test every 5 years. This would coincide with a law stating that an employer must pay employee for time off for this test, up to 3 hours, let's say. If you pass the test, you pay zero, and your license is good for another 5 years. You fail, and your license gets suspended, and a fee of $40 is imposed for every test thereafter. Any monies paid for retests would be tax deductible. Many people would see this as a cash grab, I look at it as an incentive to maintain good driving skills. Plus, any monies gained from this "program" can go towards road maintenance, expanding highways, or even building new highways. I know none of this is remotely possible, but dammit, I just want these terrible drivers to stay off my roads!
