    UPDATED: The satellite radio firm, controlled by John Malone's Liberty, said adjusted earnings rose, but higher expenses led to a lower profit on an unadjusted basis.

    Sirius XM Radio on Tuesday reported improved adjusted second-quarter earnings as it continued to grow subscribers.

    Sirius, the radio home of Howard Stern, added more than 475,000 net new subscribers in the latest quarter, ending it with a total of more than 26.3 million paid subscribers, a new company record. In comparison, Netflix as of the end of June had 36.2 million U.S. subscribers.‎

    The company, controlled by John Malone's Liberty Media, posted adjusted earnings of $131 million, up 60 percent. Without the adjustments, though, earnings fell 4.4 percent on higher expenses. Revenue rose 10 percent from $940.1 million to $1.04 billion.

    Sirius XM CEO Jim Meyer lauded the "extraordinary operating performance" in the latest period as the company raised its full-year 2014 financial guidance.

    On an earnings conference call, Meyer was asked about the addition of The Today Show to Sirius. He said it adds to the company's great content and should help Sirius retain subscribers. The Today Show Radio channel launched about a month ago.

    Analysts are bullish on Sirius stock, but liberty stock is weak.

    Sales are up as new car sales with free subscriptions in them are up. When they go back down in the next recession (we're currently in a very mild, almost stagnant recovery), so will SiriusXM's sales. Pretty simple. I just bought a car today that has 6 months free. I canceled one account just last week. This one will be canceled too in 6 months. But till then I'm a "subscriber".

    The "good news" is pure spin by management, as profits are down while sales are up. Not a good sign when your P/E is already over 60. Increase it 10% more and they might find themselves back in the red.

    They have to cut the dead wood. They should get rid of the part timers. Only keep the people who work five days a week.

    Every year I have to cancel my sub in order to re-sign at a lower rate.

    Am I being counted as a new subscriber?

    yes, that is how it works in the Cable tv industry, so i would imagine they count it the same.

    How in the FUCK is GM selling that many more cars when you consider they are getting ready to pay a huge amount of money to all the victims of their ignition switch death debacle?

    Shell game. Every car that rolls off the line w/ a Sirius radio is a sub for 6 months.

    Years ago I read that the free subs are paid for by the car companies. That is why Sirius could add them without being in trouble regarding stock, etc.
    Even though nobody is listening they are bringing income in

    They are paid. Just not by the person who buys the car.

    It doen't shock me that the subscriber numbers go up. People surely see that there is some good content on Sirius/XM. It's the suggestion from some (mainly Howie) that every new sub is because of him that makes me nuts.

    they don't count in the "paid' numbers until they convert to self pay customers, which occurs is a little less than 50% of the time.

    There is no fucking way you can spin this in a negative way, they are beating all of the "Streets" forecasts :jj:

    Can you send me a link or something showing this. I remember reading in the past that the cost was wrapped into the vehicle by the mfgr....
