    Hey it's New Years...why not have a post :).

The first ball drop in NY was in 1829.
The first Time Square drop was 1907.
The first ball was made of iron and wood with 100 25-watt bulbs.

New Year's Eve 1965 - The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson - LIVE

This was the time when the show started at 11:15, then they had to start the show all over again, at 11:30 since local newscasts were 15 or 30 minutes long.

The shows starts over again at the 13:50 mark. This time Carson is there. Ed McMahon and Skitch Henderson hold the fort for the first 15 minutes.

Honestly, I think of something, then I furiously search every corner of the internet for pics for a good bit of time. If a few like them here, then awesome. All for fun. :)

Usually I just remember stuff I looked at to pass the time when I traveled on buses or waited in airports, when I played hockey. :snicker:

Those old pics of Times Square look pretty good with no police barricades. You just show up when you want and squeezed in the crowd. Now it's a bunch of Filipinos wearing their complimentary Nivea 2015 eyeglasses standing for 12 hours and pissing and shitting in their diapers

Celebrating New Year's in Times Square is just dumb. Pushing yourself in with millions of hipsters and thugs and morons in freezing weather with cops and barricades all over the place, just to watch a lighted ball get lowered on a building is a stupid thing to do.

Besides, by the time the ball drops in Times Square, most of the world's celebrations will have already long ended. Sydney, Australia is 16 hours ahead of NY - it is already tomorrow afternoon there.

And why are we celebrating getting a year older anyway?

@LaserTilt in the old university days when the internet was young, I loved to look at black and white photography books in the library.
It is good we can do it from home now.
