Tin foil hat: why aren't there relevant guests on the show?

Wonder why that is. Thoughts? I got a couple.

    1. The guest list dried up about the time they moved to Sirius. Possibly the intense drop in audience numbers led guests to be less inclined to put up with Howard's shit. Actresses would tend to endure Howard asking if they took a dick in the ass if they knew they were reaching millions of people

    2. Sirius, at the beginning, was scab labor. They were outside the acting guild and broadcasters unions. Appearing on a scab show would get a celeb black listed

    3. Howard is irrelevant, see #1

    4. Booey is an incompetent fuck when not backed by a huge radio conglomerate.

    ...

Also, what do you think bogeys calls are like? Think he gets a war, reception when he tries to contact celebs, or do they tell him to lose the number?

Howchie's afraid a "good" guest would show him up for the incompetent, inattentive, ADD afflicted, interviewer that he is.

The last time this happened, the guest was Brad Garrett. He called Howchie and Artie out on several things, made them look foolish & unprofessional, and hasn't been on Howchie's show, since.

Booey himself, has admitted on the air, that he is not the primary booker (source) of guests, since they moved to Siri. President and Chief Content Officer, Scott Greenstein is the man.

I like the guest who called Robin "annoying" and said she talks too much.

Most sane people don't wish to discuss length & girth with a salivating freak.

Baba Booey stopped actively searching for guests. This could either be because he has so many ancillary duties that he's simply just too busy. But if that were the case, why wouldn't those duties just get delegated to Will or Jason? What's more likely the case is that the guest list dried up and Howard panicked. He instituted a "guests book themselves" policy so that he would have an excuse. Besides, with the Leno/Idol/AGT talk over the past few years, who has time for guests?

Probably the top two subject that people want to keep private is their sex life and their personal income.

These are the two subject that Howard is guaranteed to ask about.

Without the exposure that K-Rock provided, Celebrities will not want to put up with those questions and therefore will skip the show.

Since Gary's method of booking is waiting for the phone to ring, without the large audience the phone simply isn't ringing as much.

Every guest booked in these days seems to be there for one of the following reasons:

    1. Longtime friend of the show/admirer of Howard
    2. Friend of Howard's doing a favor (Billy Joel, Arquette, Courtney Cox, Kimmel ect)
    3. Friend of Beth needing puclicity
    4. Doing a Sirius Tour (Lady Gaga, Paul McCartney)

I can only think of 2 instances in the past few years where Gary did alot of hard work which resulted in a great segment:

    Tiger Woods Beauty Pageant
Somehow getting Bill Murray on the phone

Probably because O&A have Roland, who seems to be a maniac for booking guests. As far as R&F, my guess is they get big names because Ronnie B is the BEST interviewer in the business, hands-down, and bar none.

    Here's a few more:

    5. Attended an amazing Jimmy Kimmel party, which will result in a segment filled with hilarious tales of antics from said event.
    6. Client of Don Buchwald.

The combination of a small number of listeners, lazy producer and no desire to answer a 60 year old wig wearer's scripted questions about sexual habits and net worth results in the guest list of the 2012 HSS. If Howard was really a good interviewer he could at least come up with some different questions and create an interesting interview of the people who do come on the show.

At this point Howard just doesn't want to be bothered with having to interview someone he doesn't know or cares about. I'm sure good potential guest are pitched to Howard but he rejects them.

Screw the animation, that is the best picture of Courtney Cox I've ever seen! Breasts aside, her face looks just great -- that has to be pre-surgery, right?

That was a major score. Producers wanting to hire him can't even get him on the phone.

As for the OP's question about relevant guests, there are numerous reasons why this doesn't happen. One is Howard himself. He doesn't want to beg anyone to come on his show. To be fair though, the HSS was never about getting "relevant" guests. Some of the best guests he ever had were rather irrelevant. Tiny Tim, Richard Simmons, Grandpa Al Lewis, Gilbert.....etc. Kenneth Keith, Hank, Beatlejuice, and Jeff appearances were always better than an appearance by a "relevant" guest. The HSS has always celebrated the oddities and has-beens, not the mainstream "relevant" people. Before Howard, Richard Simmons was the annoying loudmouth that went on shows like Oprah to have a tear-fest for fat people. It wasn't until Howard that he became a comedy staple on shows like Letterman. You don't need a-list guests to have a good show. You just need interesting or funny people to come on and be real.
