On the way into work today I was listening to the show where Howard and Co., well maybe not Artie, were bent out of shape because Stuttering John was leaving for the Tonight Show. Entertaining radio for sure.

What side of the fence were on back then about this and 8 years later has your opinion changed? I lean toward John now, not so much back then.

He got paid a lot more money to wake-up later in the day, work shorter hours and live in the Hollywood Hills.

I was on John's side all along. Howard is such a controlling, jealous creep. Remember how he was when Eizinger left E to go the that "flop" Amazing Race :jj:

John got paid, and absolutely did the right thing.

Howie would have found a way to insert a monkey wrench into the process had he had foreknowledge, or badmouthed, predicting failure for John like he did Goodstein when leaving for Amazing Race.

It was also Leno's first "fuck you" as payback for Howard coming on, crapping on his show with the lesbos and disrespecting him and his wishes -by spiriting away a relatively talentless individual who had a lot more intrinsic value to the THSS than realistically what he brought to the Tonight show.

All in all it worked out great!

Never understood the "he should have asked my permission" mentality. That's stupid. No one does that.

Losing him is the best thing that ever happened to the show. Richard and Sal are funny, where John was just an ass hole.

I was never a big Stuttering john, guy could throw shit all day and cried when it came back to him.As much as i didnt John to get a better gig, i now see how controlling and manipulative howard could be.Always keeping paid just enough to keep them by his side.Little does he know you cant buy loyalty but you can sure pay those around you a bit more, thus being more loyal.Good move on John's part at the end of the day.

agreed.....that's just not how the REAL world works. John left for $$$ and it
PISSED Howard off to no end. He felt and STILL feels slighted. I was for John then and still am. More power to John. #grudge.

Am I the only one tired of Fred and Howie imitating John on those live reads? Get over it guys. He ain't even the announcer anymore.

John was the biggest loss to the show. Bigger than Jackie, bigger than Artie. I didn't appreciate him till he was gone. He was the biggest shit starter and he'd throw anyone under the bus, something the show is now desperately lacking. His balls-of-steel interviews provided classic content.

Why not make Sal and Richard useful and send them out on the red carpet rather than sitting making lame song parodies and prank calls to hillbillies.

Bigger loss than Jackie or Artie might be stretching it a bit, but I agree that his shit stirring prowess is sorely missed.
