A mother and her boyfriend were arrested in Louisiana after people complained the man had forced beer down the throat of the woman's 1-year-old boy, and the mom hit the baby after he vomited. Krysten Verdin, 23, and Brett Flower, 24, were charged with cruelty to a child after partygoers reported the couple to the state Department of Child Services, according to statement from the Slidell Police Department. Both are being held behind bars. Bail has not been set, NOLA.com reported. They were busted after witnesses at a family gathering reported the boyfriend, on more than one occasion, had poured beer down the child's throat. The baby then choked and threw up, witnesses said. The mother would "become agitated and slap the child on the back of the head, causing him to fall on the floor," the statement said. Det. Daniel Seuzeneau said Flower acknowledged forcing beer on the baby. The boyfriend "thought it would be funny," Seuzeneau told the news website. There were no details on where the baby is now. One neighbor spotted the two playing basketball just hours before the incident, which was reported by a passing delivery driver at 1 p.m. He told police a topless woman was beating the boy with a garden tool,KTRK reported. The toddler was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital where he remained in critical condition overnight while police took the 23-year-old mother, who friends identified as Jenea Mungia, into custody, according to KTRK. "Evidently she was in some kind of state," Harris County Sheriff's DeputyThomas Gilliland told The Houston Chronicle. "The scene itself was a terrible one for deputies to arrive to." Responding officers reportedly had to tackle Mungia, before finding blood inside the house and along the driveway. Deputies were reportedly shaken by the grizzly crime scene. A family friend told The Chronicle the young mother struggled with post-partum depression and Mungia recently moved back in with her parents after leaving her boyfriend behind in Alice, Tex. "It made me want to grab my baby and hold him tight," neighbor Sarah Moore told KTRK.
