A family says a SWAT team raided their home in the middle of the night and seriously injured a 19-month-old boy with a stun grenade.

Alecia Phonesavanh told Channel 2’s Ryan Young her child is at the Grady Memorial Hospital burn unit, and is in a medically induced coma.

Phonesavanh said she was at her sister-in-law’s home in Habersham County early Wednesday when police raided the house.

    ----

"Everyone's sleeping. There's a loud bang and a bright light," Phonesavanh said. "The cops threw that grenade in the door without looking first, and it landed right in the playpen and exploded on his pillow right in his face."

Don't sell drugs where your 19 month old lives.

Read the article. It wasn't his child. It was his sister in law visiting after her house burned down.

I just don't understand the need to do a military style swat raid on a house full of civilians in our country. And it's getting worse

This isn't about 'officer safety', it's about terrorizing suspects (and the public) and making sure suspects don't destroy their stash. (Assuming they even get the right house.) How did the cops arrest the most wanted man in America last year? Whitey Bulger had killed or ordered the deaths of dozens of men. Long in the tooth, but still a dangerous killer. Two cops walked up to Whitey's apartment super and asked what "time does the guy in 21B go out to the mailbox in front of the complex to get his mail?" The super told them. The next day when Whitey came out to get his mail, they walked up to him, arrested him and that was that.

Hindsight is 20/20. This was a known drug house. Let's say they didn't use a stun grenade. Instead, they bust in and the dealer starts shooting. Cops fire back and kill the baby by accident. Did the cops do anything wrong?

Oh yes. Real smart using a grenade in a raid on a drug house of a fucking METH dealer (meth lab anyone). These cops are dumb. Just bottom of the barrel and wannabe tough guys who join these days

I didn't realize it was a meth lab. What if they were just selling coke? Would it be OK to use stun grenade then? I can't blame the cops for trying to give themselves a non-lethal advantage in a dangerous situation.

What asshole stays with their baby at a meth lab? Her house that burned down was probably also a meth lab. :fil:

OK, but if the cops get the wrong house it should be treated as a home invasion and the cops prosecuted accordingly though. right?

Finally a story from here with a positive spin!

The Police these days are so hyper sensitive to any risk whatsoever they're tossing grenades into homes on no-knock raids. Vat a country!
