The Old Guard will continue guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Washington, D.C. despite historic blizzard conditions — details
A little snow isn’t going to stop them! The 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment’s Old Guard will continue guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier despite historic blizzard conditions on the East Coast.
The Old Guard has watched over the tomb at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year since 1948, according to The New York Times. The cemetery will be closed to visitors as Winter Storm Jonas pummels the area.

“These guys will be out in the snow, no matter what,” Major Russell Fox, a spokesperson for the Old Guard, told ABC News. “They love what they’re doing and they’re dedicated.”
During historic storms like Winter Storm Jonas and Hurricane Sandy, the guards can stand inside a nearby “box” made of green cloth for 2-hour intervals with their rifles by their side.

The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument dedicated to an unidentified service member who died in World War I. Congress approved the burial of the American soldier on March 4, 1921.

I watched the wreath laying ceremony years ago on a trip to DC. It still chokes me up thinking about it.
Whatever your politics are or feelings are about the military you can't help but be moved by the ceremony and walking through Arlington.

It's always amazing how stupid and disrespectful people are, they go there and hear and see the rules posted for silence, yet talk and burst out laughing.

Agree. Have seen it many times. In good and bad weather. But had no idea they would stay out today. Proud.

If he catches a cold it'll no doubt be Obama's fault and the VA will not supply premium grade lozenges.

This looks like it sucks but at least these guys get some recognition for this. I had Lance Corporals in negative degree weather standing post outside a camp in Pohang, South Korea. With nothing but parkas, MRE's, and dick jokes to keep from freezing. The most amazing part is how these kids don't bitch EVER!

Again. Wow. We are very lucky people still go in to the military. I always crazily say "thank you" when I see them out in their uniforms.

That happened when I was there. Signs all over the place "Silence and Respect". You can't miss them. So some "youths" were being loud and you heard some laughter. They got yelled at and shut up. But at the end of the ceremony it was business as usual for the dolts as everyone filed out.
