Husband and I were walking our dogs by the river by our house when suddenly our beagle pointed her nose towards a patch of tall grass and refused to move.

I peeked in the grass, and found... this kitten! We took him home.

We thought of trying to rehome him, but in just a few hours he seems to have adjusted pretty well to us and our dogs. Now I have an excuse to post lots and lots of selfies!!! :yay:

(...but seriously, I've never had a cat before, so I'd appreciate any advice you may have. :hat:)

You obviously don't know anything about kittens. First, you need to build a $7 million, 2nd floor addition to your house.

It was meant to be. You have yourself a new housemate.

Advice? The cat will need personal space, and it's better if it's higher than where the dogs can reach. He's still really small, so he won't be able to jump onto the sofa. Get him set up so he can hide out when he wants to.

He needs a litter box, toys and something to scratch.

Lazy Hand gives good advice. I recommend buying a cat tree. Mine wasn't cheap but my cat uses it for scratching and sleeping everday.

    One more thing:

When they're young, they have super-sharp claws and the claws grow quickly. It's a good idea to routinely clip the claws, but be careful how you do it. Only clip the ends! Don't cut too close to the paw or else it causes them a lot of pain.

Your pet store will have a couple different kinds of clippers. They all work.

I find it's easiest to kneel down and straddle the cat so they stay positioned between your legs. Almost as though you're sitting on them.

I'd also advise you to follow Beth Stern on twitter. She is an animoe advocate and expert…She gives some really helpful tips like

Make sure your cat always has water, as they often get thirsty.

Don't give your animoe alcohol..they may get drunk..

    She is a gem..;)

First and foremost: You are going to need several pairs of false eyelashes. Not the individual ones that look somewhat natural, the really thick strips that make your eyes look like two caterpillars are laying on them.

    Practice laying on the floor.

Put beach towels all over your house on the floor.

Put tuna in your clavicoe so the kitten will come next to your head while you are laying down. Close your eyes, pretend you are napping and take a selfie. Or better yet, have the woman who helps with housework at your house do it.

    Your cat probably has worms.

It's not a big deal, but you'll need to feed him some dewormer.

Your vet will charge you ~$200 to get him all set up with his shots and startup items.

Oh, and he probably has fleas. A couple of baths with flea shampoo will do the trick.

That's awesome, cats are great pets and after the kitten phase very independent. This is the best time to introduce them to dogs which seems to be going fine judging from your pics.
At around 6 months you will have to get him neutered just don't get them declawed, it's very painful for cats and if they ever get outside they are defenseless.

    You forgot:

    1. Start drinking during the day
    2. How shrill is your voice? Practice braying.
    3. Stomping and spastic waiving of arms cannot be understated here
    4. You're gonna need a bigger iPhone.

So cute! We have a kitten, too..she is 11 weeks.

At 8 weeks and then 12 weeks they need shots. Also, the vet will deworm her.

A good kitten food....and if she gets constipated you can feed her pumpkin puree.

also, lots of kisses and holding to socialize her and make her a lap cat!!!!!

Our kitten is a biter. They say when a kitten bites too much to walk away from it/ignore it....and eventually the kitten will learn that biting is no good. I think they eventually do grow out of it, though....our kitty has teeth like a piranha! Hahaha

Make sure the kitten doesn't get poopy butt.
