His ego is so big he doesn't realize that what he did was give Cruz who is so close to him in polls a chance to get ahead.

Cruz had a disastrous night last night. His carefully scripted attempts at humor failed miserably. Without Trump as his foil, he really came across in a very bad light.

he's got some ego--he takes some chances as a result--certain they're not chances in his mind i'm sure
no doubt that in his life that's helped him at times and hurt him at times
that's usually how a huge ego and level of self-confidence goes

but I don't believe the man is a dummy by any definition of the word

    Bloomberg

The simulcast was particularly absurd because, ultimately, all this rigmarole was pointless. Trump put together the most boring event of his entire campaign, an event so dull that MSNBC and CNN—who would have loved nothing more than to stick it to Fox News with a more entertaining, better rated event than their big night, who were craving for it—cut away 15 minutes into it, with anchors muttering about just how boring an event it was, only dipping back in occasionally. Prime casualties were Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee, who hopped over to Trump’s event hoping for some free air time, showed up right after CNN moved onto something else. CNN host Don Lemon said, “We'll dip in as soon as Trump starts to talk about policy or other issues,” which was unquestionably the funniest thing anyone said all night.

The capstone was that the website that Trump supposedly set up for his event so that money could be raised for veterans, donaldtrumpforvets.com, seemed to be down all evening.

    CNN said early ratings
    12-13 million on fox
    CNN/MSNBC doubled "usual" ratings :happyhappy:

**Ratings for Fox were Expected to be LOWER even with Oompa Loompa

Trump is no dummy. By appearing at his "rally" with the last two winners of the Iowa caucus, he was foreshadowing his own inevitable demise.

I don't think he's interested in winning Iowa. We'll see if he comes back blaming Iowans for being "losers". He may be right there.

Pretty sure they're not going to nominate the Canadian who is ineligible to serve. Not to mention he has a list of lying, corruption, and double talking that rivals Sec. Clinton's.
    Canadian atheist thinks he's ineligible.
Classic right winger Ann Coulter thinks he's ineligible.

And the day after he's nominated every Democrat in the USA will also think he's ineligible.

Trump is the "art of the deal" guy. He wants Cruz to become the biggest challenger, because he can then take him apart and walk into the nomination. He's thinking a few steps ahead.

He really came off as a nasty guy. Everyone I know says that.

The jokes when he called Ben Carson a surgeon and called everyone fat & ugly were just really strange. And when he said "stop saying mean things or I'm walking off". What was he doing?

and he lied more about his "poison pill" immigration proposals.
