Donald Trump on Thursday reached the number of delegates needed to clinch the Republican nomination for president, completing an unlikely rise that has upended the political landscape and sets the stage for a bitter fall campaign.

Trump was put over the top in the Associated Press delegate count by a small number of the party's unbound delegates who told the AP they would support him at the convention. Among them is Oklahoma GOP chairwoman Pam Pollard.

"I think he has touched a part of our electorate that doesn't like where our country is," Pollard said. "I have no problem supporting Mr. Trump."

It takes 1,237 delegates to win the Republican nomination for president. Trump has reached 1,238. With 303 delegates at stake in five state primaries on June 7, Trump will easily pad his total, avoiding a contested convention in Cleveland in July.

Trump, a political neophyte who for years delivered caustic commentary on the state of the nation from the sidelines but had never run for office, fought off 16 other Republican contenders in an often ugly primary race.

Every time he walks onstage he seems like Chris Farley on SNL.

I'm supporting him, but I'd like to see him get out of the spotlight for a few weeks. Let Hillary and Bernie duke it out some more while he recharges his batteries. Then come back strong and deliver a great speech at the RNC

I still don't trust the RNC/anti-Trump groups not to pull something shady, it's very suspicious that Paul Ryan hasn't endorsed Trump. There have been rumors of a plot to change the rules at the convention so that none of the delegates are bound to anyone, even on the first ballot. There have also been attempts to recruit third-party candidates to run in selected states in November and deny a majority to both Trump and Hillary, which would allow the House of Representatives to choose the President.

    Go Trump!

(But watch ahole Paul Ryan increase the number to something unattainable so he can have his contested convention and derail Trump)

That's not great advice for a candidate. It's all about recognition and getting as much exposure as you can. Even if he's out there saying dumb shit - securing one more dumb vote is the name of the game.

I just don't think the "establishment" would really have the balls to make extreme moves like that.

I think all the talk about a contested convention was planted to gauge the public's response, and when the public basically said they'd string people up if that started happening, it neutered all those people real quick. They've gotten the clear message they'll lose major support if they fuck with the process too much.

I think you'll see members of the establishment just shoring up their personal political positions so they don't lose their power and money, and they'll just allow whatever happens with Trump to happen.
