Donald Trump leads the crowded Republican pack with 28 percent, up from 20 percent in a July 30 national survey by the independent Quinnipiac University. This is the highest tally and widest margin for any Republican so far in this election. Ben Carson has 12 percent, with 7 percent each for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida.

Donald Trump, the GOP frontrunner, hit the 40 percent marker in a recent Gravis Marketing poll. According to a report, this is the first time a candidate has reached above the 30 percent mark.

    Donald Trump – 40.1%

    Ben Carson – 13%

    Jeb Bush – 10%

    Sen. Ted Cruz - 7%

    Carly Fiorina – 5.2%

    John Kasich – 4.8%

    Sen. Marco Rubio - 4.7%

    Mike Huckabee – 3.7%

    Scott Walker – 3.5%

    Rick Perry – 1.5%

    Sen. Rand Paul - 1.5%

    Chris Christie – 1.4%

    George Pataki – 1.1%

    Rick Santorum – 1%

    Bobby Jindal – 0.9%

    Sen. Lindsey Graham - 0.6%

The poll surveyed 3,567 voters randomly across the United States. It had a margin of error of plus or minus two percent and was conducted August 21-22.

Clinton leads the Democratic field with 45 percent, down from 55 percent July 30, with U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont at 22 percent and Biden at 18 percent. No other candidate tops 1 percent with 11 percent undecided. This is Sanders' highest tally and closest margin.

"Liar" is the first word that comes to mind more than others in an open-ended question when voters think of Clinton.

"On the Democratic side, Secretary Hillary Clinton continues her slide while Sen. Bernie Sanders continues to narrow the gap," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. "But the real news is the man who isn't there - yet. Vice President Joseph Biden has the best appeal in general election matchups against top Republicans.

i think it's an ego and money thing. they can make cash on the fact that they ran for office...write a book; idiots pay them to give speeches. it makes them more important than they are.

everyone of them looks in the mirror and says - good morning mr. president -. they can all blow me. well except for clinton, i wouldn't let that witch within hexing distance of me.

his insults tear the person apart

    the perry one was great

calling jeb bush a "low energy candidate" is amazing, too. it's basically a classy way of saying jeb is a weak pussy who probably has low testosterone :jj:

he mocks rand paul's height. and even during the first debate he tells rand "you're having a hard time tonight" :jj:

he says that lindsey graham is polling at 0% - "how is that even possible?" :jj:

true, but i think a couple of them it hurts though.

people like bobby jindal and rick perry were kind of respected in the party before. idk how you recover from a presidential campaign that you never even get above the margin of error in

Trump has a natural advantage over the other Repubs with the way he generates all that free publicity (it might wind up killing his chances as well) and that's worth millions in campaign funds. Now, it's not as good as the free and favorable press the media give the Democrats but come the general election, if he is the nominee, he's not going to be at the same disadvantage any other Repub will have. Fun to watch.

    true. also,
he comes cross as actually honest and not at all like a politician
    he comes across as tough
he says things no other politician would say
he is raising issues that a lot of americans feel the same way about but have never had a politician represent them on
if he keeps pushing his "i'm too rich to be bought, all these other politicans are puppets of their donors" angle, it will be really powerful
