    -Ratings Breakdown:
A one-hour installment of America’s Got Talent on NBC took top-rated overnight honors, with a 7.3 rating/11 share from 9-10 p.m. But a night of repeats was enough for CBS to win the evening overall, followed by NBC, ABC and distant Fox and The CW. Launching the new season of America’s Got Talent with Howard Stern in the traditional TV season was not beneficial for NBC, with the reality/competition down by 21 percent from its two-hour year-ago season-opener (9.2/15 on 5/31/11).

Last night was not a good judge of what the true ratings AGT will get because it was the day after Memorial Day and everyone knows that most of the country are still nursing hangovers and don't want to watch talent shows. We have to wait another three weeks before we can truly judge the ratings. And in three weeks, we will need to wait another three weeks because of a reason Howard and Jon Hein hasn't come up with yet on why it is too early to judge the ratings.

The ratings last night was not horrible. Still significantly below last year's average, but better than than any other night this season since the premiere. It is a good indication though that Howard will not show an increase in the ratings for the show this summer and one has to wonder if a cheaper judge who has more appeal to Middle America would have been a smarter move for NBC. I am sure this isn't what NBC thought they were going to get with Howard and if they are telling Howard they are ecstatic about the ratings, they are blowing smoke up his ass.

The real question is if the ratings still don't rise to last year's numbers or better, how long will it be before Howard caves and goes on Leno and ends his feud with him? I think Leno is a hack, but Middle America loves the guy.

I think Howard adds little to the show. That said, the ratings will be mediocre because the show is a mediocrity. It's lame, most acts are lame, and it's as manipulated and phoney as the day is long. They could save $19M by hiring someone else who'd be glad just to be on any TV show.

no matter... England is smaller than Philadelphia :c

What will be telling is how many AGT ads NBC runs during prime Olympic viewing hours. They have a ton of ads to fill, but at the same time need to recoup their investment... will they have written AGT by then?

While you're probably right to say we need a couple of more weeks to know the true trends, 5/31/11 was the Tuesday after Memorial Day... I cannot imagine NBC is thrilled with the #s

Howard is absolutely correct, those still listening do want to hear what Howard and his wife are doing. That's why I no longer listen. His radio show is now on par with America's Got Talent, both boring and trite.

I listened for 6 minutes to Coconut Sid's post, now I enjoy not listening more than listening.

Howard - Fuck Off, and your wife is a vapid phony.

I was being sarcastic. Last night is just following suit to what we have seen all season. Ratings are down this year and look to continue. The Stern spin machine and sycophants will constantly make excuses and keep saying we need more time to get a good judge on every time the numbers come in weak.

Howard will just say he won his timeslot and did his part to make NBC number one.....and he can't be on every show on the network.
