Yup, just $13 million last year.

I just don't get the internet.

The founder and owner of Tumblr, by the way, was 10 years old when Private Parts was released.

His memo (below) ends with a "Fuck yeah."

Maybe it didn't make that much but its a huge platform with a lot of traffic and something yahoo could benefit hugely from. Forget about the revenues, what yahoo are doing is basically buying real estate on the web.

Yahoo just wants the huge 18-24 demographic that uses the site to show advertisers they are still relevant. Sound slike a last ditch effort to save a company (Yahoo) that won't work.

Especially since that demographic is so fickle, which is why they're valuable.

Old people are set in their ways, so they're worthless.

If people weren't stupid enough to post their whole lives on these sites, these matzo eating faggots wouldn't be worth shit. Fuck Farcebook, Instag.ay, bumbler, and Twatter. The only thing Twitter is good for is goofing around but it got old.

The acquisition itself is not unusual, it's the price (in cash!?) they paid that's surreal. Even if you ignore tumblr's lack of revenue, how many dollars per user equates to a $1.1 billion valuation? Something fishy is going on there. I would pay a lot of money to hear Ed Torian ask Meyers how attracted she is to some of the main players at tumblr.

We're repeating the dot.com and real estate bubbles.

Because Yahoo is desperate for people who are younger than the company -- anybody born in the mid 90s or later.

But the problem is those people look at Yahoo as their parents, or like Nickelback -- totally uncool.

So Yahoo is trying to be cool by buying Tumblr.

Yahoo still makes tons of money, but it needs young people to stay releveant.

Just like Howard Stern needs AGT to stay relevant, even though he already has many loyal fans on radio.

It's just stupidity. I don't even know what Tumbler is, I know they have some porn pics,. will Yahoo get rid of that?

Anyway it's another mistake like the billionaire that bought MySpace and made it irrelevant.

Some funny Beth pictures on Tumblr. Not sure if you need an account to see the NSFW ones.

Do advertisers think this is a demographic that has a ton of money to spend? I would doubt most 18-24 year-olds are pulling down huge annual salaries.

First of all advertising is down on the internet, Ad blocks take care of the rest. Their stock has to plummet with this purchase. I love Yahoo mail, but that's all I use them for, and it's free.

Yeah, but the people with all the money -- old(er) people -- are set in their ways.

Teens are totally manipulative. That's why advertisers desire them so much.

My first reaction was wtf, but after reading up a bit, the piles of cash that yahoo has are astounding. Essentially they owned part of some POS Chinese internet company and sold part of their portion for billions, and still own a smaller portion worth even more billions. They're sitting on billions of cash and yes, it does appear that they're buying Tumbler to be cool again.

Us old farts might not like or understand this shit, I certainly don't, but those serious shitpiles of cash aren't "nothing". They're certainly real right now; whether they remain real 5 or 10 years from now who knows?
