My new car has Sirius built in and its free for 6 months so I turned off my old receiver a couple of weeks ago that I won't use anymore. Well today just for the heck of it I checked it and it still works lol! I went on my Sirius account and its not listed there anymore so I was thinking of giving it to my friend for his car. Has anyone ever had this happen? How long did it stay activated?

They let the service run until you notice that they're still charging you after you told then to stop

The same thing happened to me. It's worked for years now. I don't use it that often but I have used it for days at a time with no problem.

I cancelled a sub in 2006 on a portable radio on a car I had that was in an accident. My new car had Sirius built in. I put the portable in the Sirius BoomBox. It was still working in 2013 when I sold it to a friend. As long as they don't enter the cancellation in their computer database which sends out a signal to not authorize the radio it will work indefinitely.

Cancel the credit card it was attached to, but even then they will put a lean on your Mortuary for default billing payments.

    Enjoy that "free" receiver :hat:

Happened to me as well, for three freaking months! They wouldn't credit the charges back to my card until I sent my bank after them.

My sub ran out and they kept transmitting for a month and a half. Sure enough they tried to bill me for $27 dollars.

I think at some point they realized there was a flaw in their system because now it appears they periodically send out cancel signals on recently cancelled subs to make sure the radio is deactivated. I had one that had been cancelled for over a year (and I wasn't being billed) but it worked for about 2 months when I turned it on to make sure it was OK before selling it. I'm guessing they send out the "kill" signals at random times and if your radio doesn't happen to be turned on you can escape for a awhile.

When is Mickey gonna hack into your account to tell us the receiver has died or is on its last legs?

I had the same thing happen with a starmate but I do have a jvc from 2005 that I cancelled and it still gets Sirius. I keep it in my garage and have listened to it for hundreds of hours with no problems.

This! I sold a couple of really old receivers several years ago - one was a Sportster. While cleaning them up to sell, I noticed both worked... My accounts connected to those receivers are both closed the the cc used on the accounts has been cancelled years ago due to theft.

Called Sirius (ug...) and they said sometimes they run free trial weeks (??) - maybe that's what it is.

Lord - they had no clue and were just throwing out answers...

Guy that has them now says they are still working and he's never signed up for service. Neither of us are paying..

So I guess, sucker pays... but this time that sucker would be Sirius? ;)

Yep, I think they only send out the repeat "kill" signals on radios that were cancelled within the last few years (when they realized the flaw in their system). The older ones are probably safe forever.
