When I pulled the driveshaft on my tractor a few weeks ago a couple needle bearings slipped from place giving me an assache getting the ujoint caps seated properly. Reassembling at 3am prolly wasn't a good idea.

    Whatcha working on?

Well, actually I'm not even that far yet :jj: I took the bolts out on the rear to drop my driveshaft and the damn plates are totally rusted together. I put a jack on the joints, beat with a hammer, and they wouldn't move. I decided it was too late since I need my truck for work tomorrow and I'll deal with it this weekend. 98 f-150, original u-joints.

I hate when pipe resin clogs the pipe. I bought a new pipe today. I need to throw out my old pipes.

I'd recommend getting some Kroil to cut through the rust (if you can find it- shit works great!), and if you're gonna have to take the new joints apart, lube them with a sticky grease like Valvoline "cerulean blue". Cerulean will hold the needle bearings in place during reassembly.

Nah, I put the bolts back in. I'm really at a crossroads with this truck. I have taken such good care of it and it purrs like a kitten but everything else is falling apart from the goddamn road salt around here. I have a hole in the bed, drivers door, and starting on the rear of the bed. I could put a few grand into it and "restore" it pretty easily. The front end needs work all around. Something is going on with the rear too, I'm slipping on the passenger side wheel. It would probably last another 10 years. Then again, I could sell it and get that fucking ecoboost I've been eyeing but the cost difference is HUGE. I'd need to scrap the interior too as the carpet and seats are destroyed. I just can't decide what to do. It's been nice not having a car payment for the past 13 years.

Yea, it's soaking right now. I had an idea and threw the new joints and caps in the freezer to shrink them. I'll use grease like you said and torch where the caps go in to expand them. Hopefully the new caps will drop right in without a lot of fuss.
