Star Trek actress Nichelle Nichols briefly detained at LAX after travelling companion is 'busted for having meth in his suitcase' Nichelle Nichols - who played Uhura in the original 1960s series - was reportedly detained temporarily at Los Angeles International Airport. The 81-year-old actress' male companion was recently busted by authorities for having meth in his luggage, according to TMZ. The two had been going though American Airlines' terminal when the discovery was made. The companion's suitcase was said to be attached to Nichols' bags and bore her name on the tags. Law enforcement officials discovered the meth when the companion's suitcase fell to the floor and spilled open, revealing 'meth and drug scales,' TMZ reported. The companion was allegedly arrested for drug possession. Nichelle was apparently just as surprised by this discovery as the airport officials. Once her innocence was established, Nichelle was able to proceed with her scheduled flight solo. Nichelle is most famous for playing Uhura in the '60s version of the popular sci-fi series, and she also reprised her role as the spaceship lieutenant in the Star Trek feature films in the 1980s.
