MY Uncle Howard, my father's brother died a couple of days ago. He left me 11 acres of land. This was no surprise, he left me the land years ago and I have the deed, but he asked me not to touch it until he was gone. To tell the truth I had forgotten all about it.

It's a great piece of property, full on jungle with a beautiful waterfall and a working ranch that covers a couple of acres. The ranch is nothing spectacular and doesn't really generate much income, but it's got all kinds of cool shit on it. Horses, cows, pigs, chickens, etc and a ton of fruit trees. When he gave it to me (2003) it was fairly isolated, but with La Ceiba's expansion it's now just on the outskirts of town (see pic)

SO.....what to do? I'm inclined to just let it sit, but Mr G wants to divide it up into house lots......well? What say you?

I don't know what property taxes are like down there, but if the place even generates enough income to pay for itsself, I'd keep it just like it is for a little getaway place, and let that expansion drive up the value... As my daddy used to say, land is the only thing they ain't makin' more of...

How is the real estate market down right now, if it's like up here, it would pay to wait to sell? That is if the upkeep isn't too prohibitive in the mean time.

It'd be cool to own an operating ranch even if only for a few years.

    :jj:

IF we did something like that we'd just divide it into lots and sell them individually :p

We would never go there to just hang out lol.....the mainland sucks ass. It's hot and dangerous. This is purely a business deal, it's either sell it or wait and sell it.

If we divide it up and sell it now, as is, it's a decent chunk of change. There are no property taxes here so that's nothing, but we do have to pay for the two families that currently operate the ranch. It's basically a break-even deal with what the place generates

    Hot and dangerous? :bigthink

Sounds like a good area to run a white slavery ring out of. I can see it now, the Best Little Whore House in La Ceiba.

We can fly in rich middle aged men with no rap from the States for a sex fueled week of debauchery.

We can be rich I tell ya, rich!

if you have a lot of jungle canopy, you could use it to manufacture cocaine. pretty sure the government will subsidize it.
