    MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio -
Police say a Middletown teen shot to death at an area mall was trying to steal shoes.

Police in Miami Township, in Montgomery County, said Jawaad Jabbar, 16, was at the Dayton Mall Saturday with some other teens attempting to get a pair of new, limited-release Air Jordan’s that were going on sale.

When he failed to get in line in time to get a pair of shoes, police said, Jabbar decided to rob someone who had the shoes. He approached two men just outside the mall and showed a gun, police said.

Sgt. Jay Phares said that one of the men Jabbar tried to rob also had a handgun, which he pulled out and fired one time. Jabbar was struck by the bullet and was pronounced dead a short time later.

“This was a random act of ‘I want something that person has and I’m going to take it from them by any means,’” Phares said.

The man who shot Jabbar has a concealed carry permit, Phares said. He said the CCW holder may have violated mall policy if he had the gun in the mall, but that determination wasn't part of the police department's investigation.

Two other teens were arrested Tuesday in connection with the incident. Formal charges have not been filed, police said. Phares said the two could end up being charged with murder.

“It is tragic that someone lost their lives over tennis shoes," Phares said.

On Saturday the Middletown High School athletics department expressed sadness on social media, saying, “We lost a loved one, an athlete, a Middie. Rest in peace Jawaad Jabbar (JJ) and all of our prayers go to his family. #41forever.”

WLWT reached out to Jabbar’s family, coaches and friends, but they said it was too soon to talk. They would only say that the Jabbar was a good kid and dedicated athlete, who was determined to be the best.

Sgt. Phares is out of touch and must live under a rock. AJ's are basketball shoes. Urban youths do not play tennis.

I do not recall MJ winning Wimbledon or the French Open.

He was a good kid, the kind of kid who robs people. What a blow, what a loss. We'll never see what great things Babar would have done, being so determined, and so fucking stupid.

The same thing happened last year when Lebron James shoes went on sale in Atlanta.

Someone pulled a gun, the victim pulled his gun and killed the robber.......Best part of the story is the shooter went back in line after killing the punk.

Cops: Robber fatally shot in Little Five Points
    10:05 a.m. Sunday, June 23, 2013 | Filed in: Crime & Safety

Atlanta police still had not released the name Sunday of an armed citizen who shot a would-be robber in Little Five Points on Saturday morning.

The dead man, who also has not been identified, was killed after allegedly trying to rob a group of people waiting in line to buy the new, $180 LeBron James sneakers.

Witnesses told one man in line outside Wish, a clothing and shoe store on Moreland Avenue, pulled out a gun and shot the would-be robber.

The shooter then got back in line, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Police have not charged anyone and for now consider the shooting to be self-defense. No additional information was being released Sunday morning, said Officer John Chafee, an Atlanta Police Department spokesman.

“He [the shooter] really stood up for all of us,” said Taylor White, who told Channel 2 that he was in line when the shooting happened. “I salute the homie that did that.”

Channel 2 reported that a parking lot attendant had warned customers that a man had been attempting to pickpocket people in the area during the past week.

The warning apparently did not dim desire for the Nike LeBron X EXT sneakers, which were released Saturday.

oh boy, we wouldn't want to violate a mall policy, would we? Curiously, they didn't wonder if Jabbar had violated a mall policy

Enough is enough. How many more of our babies have to die. Somebody finally needs to stand up and hold Nike/Reebok/Pro-Keds responsible for the carnage connected to their products.

So sad, Howard was just about to write that kid a note.
Right after he was just about to call Joe Cocker to apologize for a bit they did poking fun at him back in 1983.
