I know it's not a lot of money, but how come I never see anyone bitching about them? The average family pays more for the "regional sports network fee" than they do in taxes that go to welfare. I wonder why that is?

Here's some info on the FDV fee.

    http://stopthecap.com/2014/06/02/th...new-0-99-because-we-can-fios-voice-surcharge/

When is a rate increase not a rate increase? When it is an “administrative surcharge” of course!

Verizon FiOS phone customers will soon find the company’s latest innovation in the form of a new line on their June bill, along with a $0.99 surcharge.

    Notice of Price Increase
Effective May 17, 2014, Verizon will apply an FDV Administrative Charge of $0.99 per FiOS Digital Voice line. This monthly surcharge helps defray account servicing costs associated with providing voice services. This is a Verizon surcharge, not a tax or governmental fee. Visit verizon.com for more information.

Instead of simply raising the advertised price of the service, Verizon added a new opaque charge which they admit is nothing more than an effort to increase revenue. Prospective customers will still see Verizon’s attractive promotional pricing, but only later discover the final bill is higher once taxes, fees, and other surcharges are tacked on.

In fact, Verizon’s new FiOS Digital Voice fee is subject to taxes as well, so for some the true cost of the rate increase is $1.21.

Some angry Verizon customers are switching to Ooma, a service that asks customers to pay upfront for the hardware but offers basic telephone service for free (customers pay well under $10 a month to cover taxes that Ooma does not pocket itself.) A more deluxe option including more phone features runs around $10 a month.

I get more out of watching sports on TV than I do giving people money for welfare.

I'm probably biased because I used to work for them but you won't find a better picture from any video service. You'll have to go to bluray to get a better picture than Fios. Their Internet is very reliable and 50/50 is the slowest you can get. This means you can probably get cheaper internet elsewhere. Verizon is on pace for the eventual blending of internet and tv. They will have IPtv within a year.

Having said that, they will try to jack your last penny.

Regional sports network fee = you paying to support MLB and possibly teams you don't watch. Total scam.

Cablevision has the best service ever for what they charge.

I switched to Fios, and I found the whole process transparent in terms of total monthly cost before paying for anything. Comcast; on the other hand, are c-suckers.

I blame the Government in most of the situations in regards to Cable, Haggling for Cars, Insurance costs, 401K gambling, and Banking practices.
Maybe Powell should get his son back in the FCC, and f*ck things up even more?

Once the whole bill went above $50, I knew I was done with them. Nowadays, suckers pay $100, $200, $300 or more for 300 channels they don't watch.

Pay for internet, get a Netflix account, stream live TV, and illegally download everything that you want to keep.

Then pay off your mortgage, drive a nicer car, and enjoy your money.

Looks light to me. But I live in the Citizens Socialist Republic of California so instead of paying $2.50 in state taxes I'm hit with $26 for a whopping $43.71 in taxes.

I would love to cut the cord on cable but there are shows I like to watch that don't show up on other services.

Plus I hate that now in order to stream shows from a channel's website, you have to log in with your provider.

Not only do you have to pay for internet, they make sure you subscribe to their tv service in order to stream shows from channel websites.

I cut the cord two years ago and saved a couple thousand $ while barely missing it. I hear that I am missing out on some great cable shows but it doesn't bother me. NFL Red Zone withdrawal was the toughest part.

Ok, but why do pro sports need to be subsidized by everyone? How would you feel if you were forced to subsidize dancing with the stars?

I'm about to switch to fios to tell you the truth. I'll grab a 2 year deal and then buy an antenna.

Cablevision has been fucking with my service to the point that the 150 I pay every month is getting to be regoddamndiculous.
