Verizon worker electrocuted and burned to death.

A Verizon worker died this morning when he was electrocuted while working on power lines in Brooklyn, witnesses said.

The worker, who was not immediately identified, was working on fixing some wires at about 11:30 a.m. near a 30-foot pole when he was zapped at the intersection of Christopher and New Lotts avenues in Brownsville.

A Verizon worker was killed today after being shocked by a live wire while working on power lines.

Witnesses said the worker was screaming after the wire singed his neck and soon caught fire.

"I heard some screaming, 'Bring it down! Bring it down! The guy was being electrocuted for 20 seconds," said witness Richard Simon, 40.

Simon said the bucket in which the man was standing in was lowered by his partner, who was sitting in the parked truck at the time of the accident.

"His head was burning," said Simon. "His neck had a mark from where the wire had touched him. It was horrible."

Desmond Tapper, 38, who works at a nearby auto body shop, said he head screaming and ran to help.

"All I saw was smoke coming from the basket," he said. "There were good amounts of flames. His head was all singed."

Tapper said he grabbed a fire extinguisher and put the man out -- although his efforts were futile.

"I jumped and grabbed the extinguisher and put the flames out," he said. "I've never seen anything like that."

A 37-year-old Verizon worker was electrocuted Wednesday morning in Brooklyn as he attempted to work on power lines connected to an electrical pole.

Douglas Lalima was working on elevated power cables from inside a cherry picker on New Lots Avenue between Christopher Avenue and Mother Gaston Boulevard. Witnesses said they heard a pop and then watched in horror as his body caught on fire.

The Fire Department received a call at 11:31 a.m. and an ambulance arrived three minutes later, according to a law enforcement official. Lalima was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of the accident are still being investigated by Verizon and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, officials said.

“He came in contact with power lines — how that happened, I don’t know,” said Verizon spokesman John Bonomo, who called the accident “very unusual.”

“It obviously was an accident, a terrible and tragic accident, and we obviously offer our condolences to the family,” he said.

Gregory Alexander was working in a barber shop down the block when he heard “a cracking sound” and then screams. He rushed outside and saw Lalima burning as onlookers yelled, “Take him down, take him down!”

William Velazquez, who owns a nearby tire shop, ran out into the street and dialed 911.

“He was trying to run the cable. Somehow he caught on the power cable,” said Velazquez, who estimated that Lalima remained on the line for “close to a minute.”

Officials frantically lowered the cherry picker and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames, Velazquez said. But by the time paramedics arrived “it was too late,” he said.

theres a whole lot of wrong here...

    1) i never heard of being killed by a phone line.....which is why power is on top...telephone and cable tv is 6 ft below....should be standard

    2) why was the guy anywhere near power

    3) if he was near power....his bucket ...should be insulated for 100kv and checked by an independent company ..per osha standard.....

    4) if he was going to be near power.....where in the fuck is his spotter....thats a standard.....you never go up near power just by yourself....u need a guy on the ghround and a guy back away in a truck near phone and medical equipment..defib,cpr,,bandages that type shit and also watching

    5) why wasnt he wear his rubber sleeves and gloves.....or at minimum wheres his fiberglass pole called hotstick used to keep distance from danger

    6) if a bucket is in the power and you go to touch it you become part of the circuit to ground.....so how was anyone able to bring him down and\or why wasnt it done sooner....did he kick the line out allowing them to touch the truck...

7)..i see 0.0 grounds on that truck ..and none in the air...and no rubber blanket or rubber guts on the line......

8)..DID THE GUY EVEN HAVE ON ANY FR CLOTHING...FR= FIRE RETARDANT...it wont melt on you but just burn off

WHO THE FUCK IS RUNNING THAT OUTFIT

if you look down the sidewalk to the next pole it tells a lot....

you will notice the power on top of the next pole has wire running east west and north south....the main line looks like 34.5 kv..with a distribution under build......the telephone looks to me like its on the very bottom and was being pulled in new....he might have been attaching the new linbe to the pole

SO WHY WAS HE NEAR THE FUCKING POWER
