Somersky and I were talking about this the other day as we both had come across this. Some of the pics that Somersky and I found.
Taking pictures with the deceased. I guess it was a totally different time. Pretty eerie, yet powerful. Sorry if it's too morbid.

The daughter in the middle is passed away. The parents are out of focus because they moved during the long time to photograph.

a lot of the times, there werent too many opportunities to take pictures, so might as well do it when you had all the family together, living or dead.

There has been a resurgence of sorts with this type of photography. One thing that seems to be getting popular is people taking photos of their late term still born infants and putting them in baby clothes and making photo books of them before the funeral services then putting the photo books at the viewings if they choose to have one.

Teenage girls are taking selfies and granny's wake these days, so it's back in fashion.

So weird that the girl standing is the dead one.....apparently photography was kinda new and expensive, and you didn't waste the money, but when you knew they were dead, they would do for the family photo....
I was in Sicily not too long ago, and went to this amazing graveyard on a hill, all the tombstones had pictures of the dead, young and old with their eyes propped open....
    Super creepy...
    Thanks for posting @LaserTilt !!

ya it was probably really expensive.
maybe for some of these folks it was the only photo they ever had taken

A horrible trend that seems to be making a comeback in the videotaping of funerals and posting them online. Don't get it. :dontknow:

I have it on good authority he just heard about Stuttering John getting kicked of SFN and that SFN actually has a thread with over 100 posts in it.

If you think about what a rare commodity a photo was in those days compared to now where billions per year are snapped on almost every phone every day it is a stark contrast.

I have to think many still found it morbid, but fad mentality of sorta took over with the novel new technology.

It's a good topic guys and interesting snapshot (haha) on social psychology.

I've seen that type of photos before, that was a very weird morbid practice, this was the true faces of death.
