HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Hampton woman contacted WAVY News when what she thought was a notice for a late bill turned out to be something much different — a letter that appears to be from the Republican National Committee, asking for a donation.

Linda Loy said she received the letter last week. The words “NOTICE OF DELINQUENCY” are typed in large red letters on the outside of the envelope. The return address reads “Office of Records, Virginia Area Assessment.”
“I was very frightened, that, what bill did I miss? My heart started racing, and then when I opened it up, it was just, heart started racing because I was angry,” Loy said.

A letter that appears to be signed by Reince Priebus, Chairman of the RNC, reads in part, “This notice of delinquency has been sent to you because the Republican Party has contacted you multiple times to ask for your support of our 2016 campaign…We need you to come forward today and send a contribution of $25 or more.” A membership application form at the bottom of the letter reads “PAST DUE.”

Loy said she has never given money to a political party and prides herself on paying her bills.

“Not only the mail carrier, whoever handled this from Washington, D.C. to here, they’re thinking, ‘Oh boy, here’s another deadbeat,'” she said.

WAVY News contacted the RNC in Washington, but a person in the press office could not say if the letter came from there, and referred questions to a spokesperson. WAVY News left a message with a spokesperson, but it has not been returned. The street address and website for the RNC are listed under the chairman’s name at the bottom of the letter. A message with the Republican Party of Virginia was not returned.
“I don’t care if it’s a marketing ploy. It’s an irritating marketing ploy that really scares people,” Loy said.

WAVY News received this statement from a Virginia representative of the U.S. Postal Service: “Mailpieces sent as Standard Mail like this mailing can be subject to inspection. We have received no complaints on the matter.”

Loy has written a letter that she plans to send to the RNC.

There is going to be a lot of weird shit happening as they try to stop Trump in the next few months. Clearly they need money to do that

I'm hoping that when this primary nonsense is over with that they support trump. If not, there's absolutely no reason to vote republican ever again... And I'm conservative.

At some point, they will accept defeat. What they do after that will dictate their future. If they pull the will of the people away, they won't have the option to tank this election and attempt to set things "right" in 4 years.

Their party is dead if they don't. They would need the absolute right candidate, which I don't think they have, to oppose Trump.
