WTF Vitamin and mineral supplements

    What's the general opinion here? Good? Bad? Bullshit?

    A guy at work has been raving about ZMA and 5HTP. Makes me curious.

    I do take a calcium pill,fish oil, and a multi vitamin pill every morning. Those are the kind of pills you don't really notice working I think.. I haven't been sick in ages, though. :dontknow:

    I believe in supplements and do look for high quality fish oils as well. Also, considering fat solubility and digestion, I also believe it's important to make sure to take supplements with food.

    Mostly Good.

    Nature Made vitamins are the best vitamins and minerals for the price.

    Very good quality but, way lower priced than GNC or other Vitamin stores.

    Anything beyond a basic multi-vite is a total scam. Read the fine print on everything and you will realize you are wasting your money.

    None of this crap has passed FDA approved clinical trials. But suckers will still buy this stuff.

    I hear some of these can cause you trouble
    not the multi-vitamins so much

    but the specific one mineral ones---you can get too much of something

    Centrum Silver (for old guys) and a big Magnesium tablet. And some kind of B3 or B6 supplement, supposed to boost the effects of weed. And a trace elements tablet once in a while (I like to drink distilled H2O). (bikini hottie included because water)

    All bullshit. Can cause lots of problems. Just eat a good diet and ignore all these snake oil supplements. Take it from me, your liver and kidneys will thank you.

    I take vitamin D for the winter blues as well. Just be careful, you can take too much of that stuff.

    I take vitamin D in the winter.
    Fish Oil daily.
    81mg aspirin daily.

    All doctor recommended.

    Just make sure you get the good stuff. Those store brands and generic stuff are crap. If it says 100% Vitamin C or Vitamin A, your body probably only gets 10-20% at best of the dosage as it passes through.

    Food is the best way for the body to get and absorb vitamins and minerals.

    I take a Flintstones Complete - it doesn't hurt my stomach, so that's a plus. Plus a liquid Vitamin B Complex. .... I stopped taking the multi once, and got sick promptly after - never again!

    From Labor Day to Memorial Day, I take 4000 + for seasonal affective disorder. I don't take any during the summer months. Doses this high should only be done under a doctors supervision. Vitamin D is fat soluble, and is stored in fat cells, so excess amounts can't be excreted.

    Seasonal affective disorder makes suicide seem like a good idea. I'll deal with any side effects. Vitamin D has been a life saver for me.

    Yeah I know it builds up and hits the liver if it's overtaken. I stick to 2,000 IU a day and it seems to work during the winter.
