Remember those job numbers Obammy was just crowing about?

Walmart closing 269 stores worldwide, impacting 10,000 American employees
    BY Larry Mcshane
    NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
    Updated: Friday, January 15, 2016, 12:24 PM
Walmart is closing 269 locations worldwide, including 154 in the United States, affecting 16,000 employees in a massive restructuring of the multibillion-dollar company.
The American closings will impact 10,000 workers, most from the shuttering of 102 Wal-Mart Express stores — the company’s smallest outlets and a financial flop after their 2011 introduction.
The remaining 52 shuttered U.S. operations will include a mixture of Walmart superstores, the bulk-selling wholesale outlet Sam’s Club and the grocery store operation Neighborhood Market, the company announced.
“Closing stores is never an easy decision, but it is necessary to keep the company strong and positioned for the future,” CEO Doug McMillon said Friday.

The multibillion-dollar company will be shuttering 269 stores worldwide, 154 of which are in the U.S.
“We invested considerable time assessing our stores and clubs and don’t take this lightly.”
The falling ax struck hard in Brazil as well, where 60 stores will close. Most of the other store closings are spread across Latin America.
It was unclear how many workers might lose their jobs, but Walmart said they hoped to find the employees new positions in nearby company locations.

Doug McMillon, President and CEO of Walmart, said they had “invested considerable time assessing our stores and clubs and don’t take this lightly.”
Those who can’t find work within the company will receive 60 days of pay plus severance — if eligible.
A campaign critical of Walmart’s treatment of its workers issued a statement calling the store shutdowns a “chilling message” sent to the workforce.
“While (Walmart) pretends to value its employees, the reality is ... its workers are disposable,” said Making Change at Walmart. “Sadly, these latest store closings could very well be just the beginning.”

The closings will effect 10,000 American workers, and Walmart said they hoped to find the employees new positions in nearby company locations.
McMillon had warned three months ago that he was going to evaluate the company’s operations around the globe and shut down underperforming outlets.
For the fiscal year ending Jan. 31, 2015, Walmart reported net sales of $482.2 billion. The stores shut down Friday accounted for less than 1% of the retail giant’s global revenue.

Good maybe it is the beginning of the end.

They all have a run then die.

Woolworths, AP ... Sears is on its death bed.

Even Wal-Mart's poor business planning and rampant over expansion is Obama's fault.

    You morons crack me up.

You think their disgusting customers are going to just stop shopping? No, they're going to show up where regular people go. Not a great development.

And this is all related to a slowing economy, the leading indicators have been terrible for months now.

Yeah but now they got to provide expensive healthcare to everyone working more than 30 hrs per week. This makes marginal stores unprofitable. Their model has worked fine for decades before Obamacare. Walmart is there to make a profit. This is not socialism you ass wipe.

    More costco less Walmart.

I haven't been in a Walmart since they decided over ten years ago that I shouldn't buy an Eminem album but I could buy a gun. They ran all the independent record stores out of town so there was no option left.
