The photo up above is from a Walmart in Canton Ohio where, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, management has apparently decided to run a Thanksgiving food drive for the store's own employees. One might be tempted to take this as a sign that the country's largest retailer (and grocer) doesn't pay their workers enough to put a holiday meal on the table. The company, however, would prefer you think of it as proof that Walmart employees are a tight-knit bunch:

That's what they get for working at Walmart. And living in Ohio.

My GF had to volunteer last semester, and decided to do shit at the Mission. She said there was a couple there who ate/slept at the shelter, both in their Walmart work apparel.

According to a February 2010 article in Forbes magazine, Canton ranked as the 9th most miserable city in the United States.

I had to go down there a while back. I still remember seeing this big, angry looking black guy wearing a pink wig, pumps and tight stripper dress and his lips were silver from the spraypaint that he had just been huffing. This was in broad daylight, right across from City Hall.

The Akron/Canton area is depressing as fuck!

I'm no huge Wal-Mart fan, but they are in the same business as the Targets and Sears of the world. They resell the same Coke, Pampers and Skippy. They make small margins and pay most employees relatively low wages...just like Target and Sears. I worked retail in high school and college before I started a career and you really don't need to be a genius to stock shelves, straighten merchandise or check out customers. Companies like Apple have much, much larger profit margins, but nobody seems to be angry at them....

    That's nice of them.

If their employees feel they are not paid enough they should look for other jobs

Most of these companies have sent their factories to China where it's worse for the workers. In the last decade most have moved to China and can get away with no overtime pay, horrible minimum wage, no maternity leave, heavy worker fines for not making quotas, no Social Security, benefits, etc. Stuff they would never get away with in the US. Huge money saved even though it kills US employment here.

    Nice?
Wal mart is asking US to buy food for their employees who make them wealthy.
Pay any wage you want, but don't ask me to make up the difference.

I guess Howard is nice too for asking poor people to fund his lame 'charities' :rolleye:

Well, it's sad when an adult is doing the job a teenager should be doing as their first job.

Apple isn't asking poor people to make sure their employees can eat.

Most of Apples products are made China overseas. The factories here are mostly gone.

"China Labor Watch said that APPLE workers at the plant would stand for more than 11 hours a day, and alleged that new employees were forced to sign contracts stating their overtime would be considered voluntary.
Some employees had worked more than six consecutive days and that Jabil was working with Apple to manage overtime,"
