Was 'Gumby' designed to promote psychedelic drug use amongst the youth of the 1960's?

I know my friends and I used to come from from school, get baked, and what these reruns while our nacho's were being cooked... Used to laugh our asses off
This shit is waaaay the fuck out there. Manically depressed, talking musical notes... flying vinyl records...Pianos that turned into bulldozers....
Shit was up there on the the Bizarro-scale with that movie "Eraserhead" ...Most of the time it made no sense at all.

I think you're right. I've always maintained Art Clokey was on acid.

True, I was weirded out when I got older and realized it was a Christian show. But all that shit was lost on me as a kid.

Back in the late '80's I went to an animation festival and Art Clokey did a Q&A, and he went on at great length about LSD and it's affect on his career. But the next year at the same festival he denied ever taking it. So who knows??

I liked the reruns of Gumby, a lot, growing up. I never thought of anything drug-related or promotion of them while watching, even now. It just was a little out there.

Not to change the subject, but any Davey & Goliath fans/haters ever try watching Moral Orel on Adult Swim?
