Was selling out always in the cards for Howard?

Howard is set for financially set for life... he has 100s of millions of dollars that even his whore, money loving wife can't piss away.

But that money came at the cost of a reputation that took him decades to earn, a radio show that now is a shell of itself and most important

he has discredited himself as a viable ratings draw for any future TV plans by bleeding millions of viewers on the shit show he just did..

So was the plan all along to build up a fake image and cash in??

I don't think so. Money had nothing to do with selling out. Howard has been rich since the late 80s, and obscenely rich since the mid 90s.

I think the desire to sell out came about after his marriage.

Beth wanted to go to social parties and red carpet events, Howard would go along and then in his words "get called out for the crazy stuff I said on air". Howard is socially inept, and awkward at these things already so I'm sure that didn't help. So in order to be more comfortable at these fashion parties and around Beth's friends he became the "champion of all gays".

Then Beth wanted so hobbies to keep her busy, hobbies that would put her in the spotlight and feed her "desire not to be famous". So Howard further evolved and went about repairing burnt bridges. As a result Beth goes on Tyra Banks and Ellen, even Letterman.

Now Howard futher nueters himself in a desire to become a card carrying member of the nbc family.

So the selling out of Howard Stern, and the destruction of what was once the Stern show all goes back to HOward
s marriage to Beth. Though it must be clear, this is entirely the fault of Howard Stern, and HOward alone

I thought he really enjoyed entertaining in the past. I think he's just gotten lazy.

Plus he has no comedic sidekick to prop him up.

Couldn't have said it better my mutha-fuckin' self....

It's all the influence of that tranny Beth, but ultimately Howard's fault for trying to have his cake and eat it too.

He has "mellowed with age" in the worst ways possible.

I lean on the "he was a phony all along" fence. This goes down to the "he did cheat on his wife often" argument that I use when he was pulling the I have chicks showing their tits to me all time and I'm not interested crap. Himus was always socially inept, like referred to earlier, but getting hot chicks has always been something that he aspired to and once it started happening on the regular because of his fame and his evolution into TV...his divorce and finally a trophy wife, just like his arch enemies Imus and Larry King really solidified to me what a horrible phony piece of crap he was the whole time.

Over the years Stern had less and less in common with his listeners. Even if you have money, when you're raising 3 rugrats in the suburbs, you're "in touch." But what does a 60 year old wig-wearing jewess with 500 million dollars+ and a trophy wife have in common with his aggrieved, lower middle-class, middle-aged white male listeners? Nothing. In the grand scheme of things, he's one of the wealthiest people in the world. That's why he needs a staff of like 30 people to put on even a shitty show. He's just out of touch.

Howard got the "kinda" trophy wife, he is rubbing elbows with some AListers.....he is finally 'accepted' by the popular crowd..which is what he always wanted.

But he forgets that the people who made him what he is are us working class dawgs...and we can make him or break him. (see AGT ratings).

We've had enough of his BS..nothing he ever does from here on out will be successful b/c us working class dawgs won't support it. So Howard, retire to your $52M mansion and call it a day. We've had enough of you.

I agree with what you're saying. But I think that the A list celebs just tolerate Howard and humor him into thinking he's one of the elite....I'm a little person on the totem pole and Beth makes me want to vomit, I wonder what real celebrities think of them....they have no real friends, make weird overtures towards the people they consider close to them (the Kimmels). And if Howard is so buddied up with guys like Clooney, why can't they call in to the show or make an appearance?

If you are an asshole, money changes you...if you are not an asshole it does not...you still drive you same car, you still have your same friends, you still keep your spouse.

If Kimmel thought the wedding dance prank was hilarious and Clooney loved the pix of Horsey that Wiggy emailed to him why don't they ever call and say what's up?

If you asked me that question in the 90's I'd say NO FREAKING WAY!!!! Howard has way too much integrity.

But where we are now, I don't think it was a planned out sell out, but it's more than obvious that it's now a simple fact.

Howard Stern has completely sold out and like you said, demolished his legacy he spent a career building.

I think he would have sold out a long time ago if he had the chance. He was always the outsider who wanted to be one of the popular kids.
