We watched Palmy Days (1931) starring Eddie Cantor today.
Awesome Busby Berkeley choreography with gorgeous half-naked girls with see-thru blouses and skirts ...very risque, pre-Code stuff.
    Marx Bros-esque comedy-anarchy.
Favorite moment was when Eddie went into his black-face routine.
    Great stuff:

Yeah. I'd never seen a movie with him before.
I was aware that he performed in black-face, hence my interest but I had no idea that he had the comedic instincts & delivery of a Groucho.
His peak was in the 20s-30s but remained hugely popular throughout the '40s & early television days.

We have 400 cable TV channels and not one devoted to B&W movies. It would be great to have a curated B&W channel with a host who explains each movie so that we know a little history before we watch it.

No kidding. I bought a 4 dvd set from Waner Archive of all-1930s era Eddie Cantor movies.
I'd love some background on these titles after I've watched 'em.

Would have been cool to have had Robert Osborne introducing each one.
Instead I had to go various sites and read up on Palmy Days.
It's one of George Raft's earliest roles -he has a kind of high-pitched voice in this one.
Also the chorus girls included Paulette Goddard and Betty Grable.

I took a class on Orson Welles' films and the professor, along with the required reading, really helped me understand movies from that era. I have appreciated them ever since, but they do need someone explaining them.

Turner Classic movies. I thought that's where Robert Osborne was but of course, I could be wrong.

    No.
Robert Osborne introduces old films on TCM -Turner Classic Movies.
He was one of the earliest guests on Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast with Gilbert & Frank Santopadre.
He was also one of the best guests they ever had.

Senator, did you hear Gilbert on Penn's Sunday school from a few months ago? With the Steven Tyler toes? When he said "thumb toe" was one of the Marx Brothers, I was dying :cwl:
