They're young latino guys. I heard they were Brazilian. They're cute and tiny and super polite and sweet. I work at a financial firm. The guys are not employees. They're contracted out to come make the rounds at our offices once a week it seems. They walk around with their kits, walk into offices whose doors are open and quietly ask, "Shoe shine, sir?" The guys are regulars so the executives will either say, "Oh no, I'm good, thanks!" or, "Sure!" If yes, they will whip off their shoes and hand them to them. The shoe shine guys then take the shoes to the hallway outside the office, sit on their kit box, and shine for about 3-5 minutes. I'm not sure how much they get paid but it seems to be a decent amount and they're always tipped. The first time I saw all this I was shocked and amazed. I did not know such things happened in offices. I felt bad for the guys, as if they were slaves in a way but it turns out they're happy to do the gig. I heard somewhere that 'professional' shoe shine guys can make something like $4K a month!!
