I'll come and do it for half that if I can find enough Polaroid film.

Don't go cheap on the photographer. Bad pictures can fuck up the whole day. Someone charging $995.00 for an entire day of wedding photography could very well be some schmuck who got a nice DSLR for their birthday last year. Lots of fauxtographers out there.

My nephew is spending about $2500, that's the whole day, getting ready, first look and the wedding. They decided not to video everything, just the ceremony. I'm with Veeb, a great photographer is important, but you don't have to spend a king's ransom

I would look at their work before skipping over them because they are cheaper. There are some starving photographers out there.

stay away from the expos and bridal shows. Get referrals. Start with one vendor you know is great. Then ask them for recommendations. Also, once you pick the venue, look at photos from weddings there. Check out the photographers that have worked at the venue, are familiar with it and make the best of the location

    This.

You get what you pay for. That said, and considering divorce rates, the chances of any couple giving a shit about wedding pictures 10 years down the road are @ 50%, but just in case, don't cheap out.

A friend's husband photographs stillborn babies, posed in natural, sleeping-type poses. There is a catharsis for parents of these babies in the photography, although it takes quite a toll on the photographers, posing dead babies with flowers and stuff. I'm certain weddings are much easier to cut out and leave their work behind...even the difficult ones.
