‘Weiner’ Covers a Political Campaign Set on Self-Destruct: At times, the proceedings resemble a particularly painful episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” with the wisecracking, can’t-help-himself protagonist sinking deeper and deeper into a quicksand of his own making. Saw this last night. Pretty funny. It's the documentary about disgraced congressman Anthony Weiner and his run for Mayor of NYC, which failed when it turned out he was still sexting porn sluts. It really was like a real life ep of "Curb," "the Office," or some other mockumentary. And Howard is in it. They use footage of the HTV interview with Sydney Leathers, where he encouraged her to go and confront Weiner on election night, leading to the film's big climax. By election night, Weiner is in the car with his wife, being pursued on the street by Sydney Leathers, prompted by Howard Stern to hunt down Weiner for an on camera confrontation. It’s then we realize Weiner has reached the floor of the seemingly bottomless pit that our news and political environment can inhabit. As an audience, and in hindsight, the humiliation of this exposure could be merely a comedic downfall: one more attention-starved ex-politician looking for love.
